putting in new fuel tank in 69 gs 350 do I use old sending unit wire or replace it, it is in good shape plug on ends are good my dilemma is , it’s on top of tank and it’s original hardware, if it goes bad I’d have to drop the tank to replace

O, also if I use original tank straps and media blast them what should I paint them with, silver or a galvanized spray or?

It hasn’t gone bad in decades as long as the insulation is still good so too will the wire.I still have the original wires on my 40,51 and 53. Never a problem.

I have always reused the old wire. If it isn't tore up, is still limber, and the connections are still good, no reason to replace it.

Just make sure you hook it all up and test it (float all the way down, gauge = empty, 1/2 way up = 1/2 full, etc.) before you put the tank back on. It you haven't already done so, I would replace the sending unit while you have it out since those tend to croak after some time.

Ok will use original wire, have new sending unit but all gauges are out of car no dash at all, so no way to test

Eddie - On the straps....they were originally galvanized steel BUT you won't be able to recreate the galvanized "look" with a spray paint. Galvanize paint is just a dull grey color (looks like a grey primer). A better choice would be a satin silver or maybe a cast aluminum paint. If you want an exact look on the straps, Inline Tube makes a repro set that is galvanized and looks/fits just like the originals.
