I just received my modified AM/FM radio from Jim Sheppard and am uber excited to get it installed. One thing I forgot to prepare for was a front speaker to install. I am wanting a dual voice coil speaker that fits in the OEM location.

    What will work?
    5X7"
    4X10"

I see both of these available at Crutchfield, but don't know what fits.

Any help is greatly appreciated !

Check out Custom Autosound. They make doubles for that spot. You may need to use a stock bracket to mount it.

    Mike,

What did he do to your radio?

Depends what you want to do. The little dual speakers will need a sub or package tray 6X9s to give your radio any bottom end. Does your suncoupe have AC? Makes it a little more challenging to get to the dash speaker. Any how, the stock speaker was 4X10. You can buy new "new tech" 4X10s with nice sound but the magnet will be bigger. You can modify the factory mount to mount them though. If you are handy you can put a 2nd 4X10 under the glove box to give you a nice sound with stereo up front. Here are examples from turnswitch.com for the OEM units (not the black one). Notice the magnet design. See http://www.turnswitch.com/speakers.htm for some good info. Duals are at the bottom.

And I should mention that it is possible to put speakers in the kick panels if you cut out the center brace (which will not hurt anything). And check the ohms - make sure you follow what Jim Sheppard says to use.

I sent him a 72 AM radio as a trade in, and he sold me a 72 AM/FM that has full bluetooth incorporated (w/mic for phone use). He also installed a 50W amp so I can use my newer style speakers to not worry about the impedance issues matching old speakers.

I need to find out if I have the speaker holder, and am looking to put a dual voice coil single speaker up front.

I am good with 4-8 ohms with this amp now, thanks for the advice !

Do u know the amp resistance (ohm) requirements for the speakers as he has spec'd with in the radio. Tbe orig was 10 ohms but 8 ohms work okay. Verify before install those 4 ohm speakers.
I have an indash am/fm 8-track that I use 8 ohm speakers. works well for me.

I will PM you his info.

My exhaust overcomes most levels of music that I listen to. Except for when songs like Black Betty come on, lol...

Well understood and I appreciate the warning. He installed another amplifier that handles 4 ohm speakers just fine. One of the upgrades I had done.
