    Hi everyone,
I'm putting to gether the 350 for my son's 67 skylark. I installed the neoprene type one piece seal in the front cove as per instructions in gasket kit. ie removed rope seal and retainer, filed down stake marks installed seal. Here's where it's not working and I need help. The stock balancer is knurled where it ran on the rope seal also it is turned down slightly here also. I measured where the new seal will ride and it's going to be right in the middle of the knurling. There is no way it will seal properly. What am I doing wrong? do I have to get a different balancer or am I forced to run the rope seal? This is a 1975 engine.
Thanks in advance for your help, Rick

Dont worry 'bout it:cool: Wont hurt a thing, every Buick running the neprene seals has the same knurling on the hub of the balancer and its never been a worry. The neoprene is worlds better than that silly piece of rope they had in there. There are two different neoprene seals tho, the better seal has the metal "ring" thats a slight press fit into the timing cover, the older neoprene seal is just a drop in that has to be siliconed in to stay. I had that style wobble loose in my Grand National (Same timing cover as the 350) So off came that cover to replace with the better press fit seal. Mark

When the seal has an open end to it though, which way does the open end face?

The lip of the seal (angled part of the rubber) should always face the INSIDE of the engine. I hope this helps yah:grin: Mark
