I am considering a front disc brake for my 72 Lark. I have a guy trying trying sell me the parts from a 72 Chevelle. He claims that the spindles are the same from drum to disc. I had always thought the spindles were different. Let me know before I fall into another money pit. Ken

I believe he would be mistaken(and trying to sell you parts). Make sure you find spindles off a disc brake car.

I'm pretty sure the spindles are different. I compared when I did the swap, and they looked different... but that was years ago.

FWIW, when I converted to disc, I was told that the Chevelle was the only A-body who's spindles would NOT work on our Larks. I'm not sure how true this is.

    disc brakes

Thanks for the info on the spindles. I will dig into this further,so I don't wind up with a bench full of wrong parts.Ken :)

Drum spindles are DEF different from disc spindles.

On the '71 & 72 drum A-bodys, all a disc brake swapper really wants to keep are the steering arms & the two bolts that hold the steering arms on. These two fine threaded carriage bolts are 1/8" longer than '69-72 disc brake A-body steering arm bolts & will work in a pinch if you just bought loose disc brake spindles & caliper brackets. Have been totally disassembling front drum brake asm's all summer long, & just finished up on 3rd disc brake swap since June. This last one was on '71 Cutlass. Need more info or parts, feel free & personal message me.
