that much of a difference?where can i purchase a set up with the carb so i wont have to go looking for parts and linckages and stuff? Thanks
I'll tell you from my experience, my old Qjet ran a little slower than the DQ's. However, I tried running on just my rear carb (to see the diference) and it was much slower than the Qjet was. I think you should at least go with the Qjet.:TU:
yea good luck trying to find that set up.check this link out,it seems like an intereststing item. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=34198&item=2457785390
George, this is a repeating thread here on v8b. ANother interesting link is this one to a Car Craft blurb about the q-jet on a '66 GS 'vert and this one which details a Q-jet rebuild. Actually, this second one is the better write up on the Q-jet. I put one from a '73 Riviera (800cfm) on my '65 and it is nice!. The Q-jet intake manifold isn't as hard to find as people think, they're on eBay pretty regularly and they were standard equipment on all 1966 Rivieras as well as an option on the '66 Skylark GS. The only hard part is finding a stock air cleaner that fits the Q-jet. Air cleaners from '66 seem to be hard to find, but the q-jet was pretty much standard from '67 on. The Star Wars one will work if you still have yours from your '67. So, if you don't care that much about a matching air cleaner, you should be able to pick one up for cheap. Once you get it, you shouldn't regret it!
1971-74 800 CFM q jets from a 455 Buick seem to be the best carb. Will run much better than the Carter or the 66 q jet. Mike
Mike will they be a perfect fit?i thought Rob(speedybuickgs)said you may have problems bolting on the later Q-jets?also wanted to ask what happens to the stock stove pipe when you replace the Carter?i really would like to make it look 100% completely stock. Thanks
Is this for a Q-jet?it looks like it is but just asking to double check. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2459272331#ebayphotohosting
That is a Quadrajet intake..you can buy them all day long from Buick World hone: (360) 825-3787 they go for 150.00-200.00 on Ebay..Bob
do you know what they sell it for?thanks guys,i still need to figure out what year carb to use? Thanks
I bought mine last June from Buick World up here in WA. They wanted 100.00, plus 25.00 for shipping to So. Cal. They did send the wrong manifold at first, but resolved the situation by sending the correct one at no charge and without me having to return the first one. Good peole there.
I have an 800 cfm from a '73 Riv and it works just fine. Had it rebuilt at Jet Performance. They were the shop in the Car Craft article in my first post on this thread. I did have to rework the linkage, though.
I don't think it is what you want. Click here to see the pix: http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=34104&highlight=66+air+cleaner
