Just preparing to put a set of brass freeze plugs back in the 455 of our X project. Do you ever consider using any sealant on the edges to prevent leaking? Do you prepare the holes with scotch brite pads? What do you do use to tap them into place?

I always use scotch-brite pads on the block and use Permatex Hi-Tack(IN THE CAN WITH A BRUSH) on the outboard edges of the freeze plugs as well as a little on the holes in the block.I installed brass ones in the last couple motors and had great success.I also use impact sockets that are close to the diameter of the plugs and a brass hammer.Make sure you install new plugs in the heads while you are at it too.

Wow, somebody else likes High-tack with the brush!

Sometimes people ask me, "Why do you use that stuff? It's messy"

I relply with, "You don't see the motor leaking, do you?"
