I wanted to publicly thank Frank V. (user name "gobuick") for a great transaction on the sale of his BEAUTIFUL 1970 GS 455 convertible.

A good friend of mine named Greg King (who actually located and help me purchase my 70 GSX almost four years ago) has been looking to purchase a 70 455 convertible for a long time. When I saw Frank had his up for sale, I inquired and he sent me over 100 pictures of the car to pass onto Greg. It only took Greg about 15 minutes from the time he saw the pics to realize the car was a perfect candidate, so he called Frank and bought the car site un-seen. Well, the car arrived in Texas yesterday, and Greg called and said he is very pleased, and the pics and description were exactly as described. He even said the car runs as good as it looks. As most of you can relate, this type of deal can have a few snags, but this particular transaction went very smooth, and best of all both guys got what they wanted. Frank even sent me a very nice shifter handle for my 70 GSX that I needed just for helping him sell the car. :TU:

    Thanks again, Frank! :beer

    Greg / James,

Congrats on the car purchase, how long ago did he buy it? I talked to Bob Swarthout a week or two ago and he told me he had a deposit on this car and was flying down to buy it, when Frank had a change of heart and said it wasn't for sale. He was really bummed out, but he understood, as parting with a car can be difficult.

Or was it just that Frank decided not to sell it (To Bob)? Maybe Greg offered more :dollar: :dollar: ????

    Something doesn't seem right?

Chris, I told Bob what I had to get out of the car, he decided to make a low ball offer. No money had changed hands & I told him I had second thoughts about selling, and I did at his offer price. Greg agreed to my asking price. Do you have a problem with that?

    Frank,

Bob had asked me about the car when it was for sale, as he knew I was somewhat local (same state) and that I also had a 70 convertible and had spent a considerable amount of time looking at a number of them. I told him my opinion of it based on the pictures I had seen (that it looked to be a very nice car). He emailed me a short time later and said that he had reached agreement on price and put a deposit on it, and was flying down to get it.

I only know what Bob told me, and that was that he had reached an agreement to buy it and had sent a deposit and was coming to get it. He also said that you had a change in heart regarding selling it, but he never said it was over the price (doesn't mean it wasn't it).

IF it was me buying a car from someone, and they had agreed to a deal (even at less than what they were asking) and then backed out to sell to someone else, then I guess I would have a "problem" with that. But I wasn't the person buying the car, so it doesn't matter if I have a problem with it.

Had you agreed on a sales price with Bob? Was there mutual acceptance? Deposit sent? Did you sell the car to Greg for more money? Did you tell Bob that you weren't selling the car to him, because you had a better offer from someone else? If you wouldn't have been offered more money, would you have completed the sale to Bob? I was not involved in the deal, so I do not know all of facts.

Bottom line, it was your car and your right to do with it whatever you like. Different people have different "rules" that they live by (rules, character, integrity - different names for the same concept here), so what is a "problem" for one person, may not be for the next.

    Chris,

Thanks for the congrats! :beer You have no doubt lead our league with assists helping many, many board members buy and sell cars over the years (including me!). I've got to say it feels pretty good when it works out like it did. Like I said, Greg could not be any happier with the car or the transaction, and he even called me back Sunday night after cleaning and driving the car around all afternoon and wouldn't stop thanking me for the hook up. I'm trying to talk him into taking it to the GS Nationals next month so we can cruise it around the rolling hills of Bowling Green! :TU:

As far as when Greg bought it, I can't speak for Frank or Greg, but I think it was on Saturday 3/15 that Greg got my email and called Frank. I don't know about any other deal that was made on this car other than what I did to help Greg.

I have been reading this, debating if I sould say anything? I decided I will.

Frank, did you not reach and agreement with my Dad to sell him the car for 32k, deposit was sent? All agreed he would come get the car as soon as the weather cleared up on the passes.

You then called Dad 3-15 and said you could not possibly part with the car and you have decided to keep it. The car was then sold to another buyer the same day that you said could not possibly part with it.

Low ball offer or not, you agreed to sell him the car for that offer.

The truth would of worked just fine.

Your car, your Call, your integrity.. end of story.

And I came to my senses after thinking about it for a few days. I was going to back out of that deal even if the car was sold or not. I told both you & your dad that I had to get 35k for the car, you chose to offer 32k for the car. I made a bad deal and I chose to get out of it. At that point I had not yet received a deposit from you. If you wanted it so bad you should have offered what I wanted for the car.

I guess that is how it goes.

a deal is a deal unless a better one comes along.

Since I was directly envolved in this sale I must add some facts. You Frank accepted my so called low ball offer of 32 thousand with no problems voiced at that time. I assumed you were happy with the sale. After that we exchanged many emails concerning the sale and when I would pick up the car. The next thing I know you call and cancel the sale and I quote " I am not trying to get more money out of you I just don't want to sell. This is certainly your right. I have no problem with that after all this was a verbal sale over the phone. I just wish you would have been straight up about what was really going down and given me a chance to match any other offers as I really wanted to purchase the car. Well I have said my piece and you will hear no more from me. This is the end of it for me. I must add how many of you reading this has not made an offer on any car trying to get as good a deal as you can. I know I usually do and so do most of the people I know buying cars. I do try and make a fair agreement with the seller. I wish now of course Frank had come forward at the time and voiced his concerns about the offer and not taken the course of action he did. The End

Bob, So I guess I make a bad deal & I am not allowed to change my mind about it? You had the chance to buy the car at my asking price, you chose not to. Another buyer agreed to my asking price & I sold it to him site unseen. The deal between you & I was contingent on your inspection and no money had exchanged hands between us. I could have told you I had an offer for 35k & had you beat it, then I could have went to the other buyer & had him beat your offer. I said it before & I will say it again,I was going to cancel or deal even if the car was not sold.
