I have a leakage problem with this filter. Car is a Special wagon, Factory gas tank, 3/8 line from fuel tank to the filter which is mounted on the frame rail. When the tank is full, the level of the gas is above the filter, and it started seeping out of the bolt that holds the filter together. I thought these were supposed to be able to operate under pressure? It is before the fuel pump. it only leakes if the fuel level is above 1/2, meaning above the flter. When the engine is running sometimes it feels like the fuel pressure drops too- I started wondering whether the filter was sucking air in? I'm thinking of going back to a mechanical pump now and forgetting the fram filter.

    Any thoughts on this?

Engine is a 76 block, 430 heads with stg1 valves, TA 118 cam, ported cast iron manifolds. Q-jet and performer manifold. Not a huge HP engine.
    Thanks!

The Fram fuel filter that I think you have is mainly used on roundy-round cars. Every time I have seen it, it is mounted above the top of the fuel tank - usually inside the trunk.

You would think it wouldn't leak anywhere it is mounted, but the fact that you are lower than the top of the tank could be the problem.

If you want a good filter to mount on the frame - check out the Wix Racing inline filter with the changeable element. Not cheap, but what most of the Nextel Cup cars have gone with.

if it is the fram filter I think it is you must need a new copper ring on the bolt ford ran these on 427 cars in the sixties and they were mounted sideways also have one on my car about level with middle of tank and have zero leaks. good luck
