    Single Stage Stage 1?

    Hi guys, I was looking for my build sheet on top of my gas tank and its got the wrong vin on it. Its torn in half, but you can read most of it. The car Im messing with right now is a 70 gs455, but that probably doesnt help. The VIN on the build sheet is 0H171852. I hope this will help someone out. Just PM me if you know of the car.

    That's not a complete VIN number, it should contain 13 digits.
    If you have the first 5 digits, (telling the make, type and body type of the car in question) I reckon you should post it here :TU:

    On the other hand, there was only one Flint car built for model year 1970 with the 171852 production number, so in fact there is enough information by just posting the last 8 digits.

    How close is the VIN to your car? I had the same situation. The build sheet for the car 4 numbers ahead of mine was put in my car. I guess the line workers needed something to brighten up their day so they switched build sheets now and then :grin:

    The build sheet should have gone into the waste bin, not into the car.
    So there was no rule that when a build sheet was hidden, it should be hidden in the car with the same VIN.

    My car was 4 ahead of this one strangely enough. My 72 stage 1 was the same way except it was 2 behind.

    Ya gotta love it, eh Matt?

    At least it's a '70, and it can be documented elsewhere.

    Imagine what the wrong build sheet would do to the 1969 or 1971 stage1 owner? :Dou:

    Single Stage Stage 1?

    Ha I know. I just got my sloan docs in for it. Its a basic no options car but its still a gs455. Yeah Ive got two 71 stage 1s and neither have build sheets. Luckily Ive got enough from the drive trains in both of them to prove that they are both stage 1s.

    Oh yeah, I think this build sheet is for a convertible :)

    According to the build sheet, the full VIN should read:

    4 34 37 0 H 171852

    4 = Buick
    34 = GS
    37 = 2 drs HT coupe

    Single Stage Stage 1?

    Hmmm wonder why there is a 3 under the "conv" option.....wait, I dont know what three means.....it probably means that there is no conv top lol.

    Matt asks,
    "Hmmm wonder why there is a 3 under the "conv" option" That has to do with the "convertible style" lighting that goes under the dash. It was stock with buicks with the deluxe interiors.

    Now you know the rest of the story.:laugh:

    Oh ok that makes sense then. Thanks for the help Duane. If this is anyones car, give me a shout and Ill be glad to help out. Its kinda torn in half, but I have plenty of pictures of it on the gas tank. It has oil or gas leaked on top of it severely, but I saved what I could.

    Does anybody know how to decode the build sheet?

    I have a 66 Wildcat buildsheet and I don't know how to decode it. Can anyone help? Thanks, Victor

    A 71 stage 1 we have has the tank sheet for a car a couple of digits off. So it happens more than one would think.

    I found a buildsheet for an El Camino folded up and tucked into the springs of the rear seat in my 70 Leeds plant Skylark. Also, the car had 4 more in it as well for my car. The El was a 396 BB with 4 speed and vinyl top.

    Chryslers were especially notorious for having the wrong build sheets. What happened is that a build sheet was on the car coming down the assembly line. All the parts to go on the car had matching build sheets but if for example there were three cars getting black bucket interiors the assembly line workers didn't make sure that the build sheets matched they just grabbed a black bucket interior and installed it. The build sheet in the seats may have been for any of the cars getting that interior.

    How do you decode the build sheet? I'm looking into buying a 66 Wildcat GS with the build sheet and I'm trying to decode the build sheet to make sure it is correct, but I don't know how. thanks Victor
