OK, I am getting more info. First thing, it is a '66, not a '65. I t has approx. 60,000 miles. All original. Original owner is in his '70's. Drove it to work, drove the car about 5 miles a day. Was well maintained. Good paint and interior. Was there a 420 something motor available for that car? Like a 421, or 425 with 3 - 2 barrels?

    GP

    They had a 421 (421 SD had 405 hp....last built in 63)

66 is the last year for the tri power, went to Q jets. 36,757 produced in 66, all coupes. 917 had manual shift.

    In 67 they went from 389 to 400, 421 went to 428.

is this car for sale? what is he asking?

those cars are complete junk!!!! Don't waste your time on this thing, it will never be worth anything, take whatever money you can get for it and feel lucky you got it as there is absolutely no demand for those type cars. BTW, how much are they asking for it??? Patton

Well now that I know it's a piece of junk:Brow: ...........It definitely has the 421 tri-power.
Here is the deal. the old guy is retired, lives on an old farm.......has no wife and kids!! One of the firemen I work with is trying to buy the old guy's farm. He went out to the barn and found this car out there. The old guy has no one to leave all this stuff to. He also has no will, so that means when he dies, the State of Texas gets all this stuff.:eek2:

    We're working on it.

oh... my... God! DUDE! WHAT A FIND! I can't believe you! Beg borrow and steal $$$ to buy that car. There are MANY Poncho fanatics that will pay high dollar for it. It is a very rare piece. 421 tri-power in the 66 GP is SO HOT!

Bad Brad says --- what Patton said.

421 is actually the number of busted knuckles you'll get from working on this junk. Has nothing to do with cubic inches - honest!:Brow:

Just as I suspected - ugly cars - no style - might as well be a '63 Mopar.

I love the look of those cars. I don't think they are ugly at all. I think they're cool. :TU: There are a lot of people who think our cars are ugly as hell too. Guess it's all a matter of personal preference. ;)

    Yardley is right, if it's a true 421 3x2 GP, it's a real find! :eek2:

Looks like maybe we can say about BadBrad and Patton what we say to Chevy guys when they tell us we have boat anchors.... no harm meant, but c'mon guys. You have to respect a 421 tripower GP...

I have a freind whos dad is a Poncho fan and he has a GP with the 421 3x2. Don't know what year it si though. He also has a 64 GTO 389 3x2, 4-speed, 4.11 and a 65 GTO with a warmed over 421 3x2, 4-speed, 4.56. All of these cars are in excellent shape. Both GTO's are restored down to correct overspray and paint stampings on the rear axle, Etc........

    SD over the counter parts

I had read that SD parts were offered over the counter only. A customer would have to piece together their own SD vs. buying it as a package from the factory. (At least in the big car)

When did the SD get offered in the GP as a package?

    Just curious?

BTW - I think they are pretty cool cars.

OK ,OK, OK!!! I give in!!! Buy the car!!!!...I really do like the styling on the Pontiacs...you gotta admit they pushed the aesthetic design "envelope" more than the other GM divisions....those sharp corners around the tailights, etc..In my opinion that's what makes the Pontiacs so cool. I have been thinking about how to approach the guy. He doesn't need the money. I think he just wants the car to go to a good home. That is the way I would feel if I were him. I think I'll go over there in the Buick, show him what I have done with it, and let him know that I want to restore his Pontiac. My plan would be to drive it some....show it some. That's the truth...would that sound OK?

    buy it

If you really like it, buy it! You approach sounds great. Most guys would love to see your car and talks cars! CPI puts a "good" 66 GP at $5100 and a 66 421 GP at $8900. So deduct what it will take to make it a good driver/show car and make him an offer.

Your talking 61/62 Mopars, actually the 63 Plymouth was a nice looking car, the 63 Dodge was Ok. The 61/62 Plymouth is the worst looking cars in history, and yeah I do like Mopars.
