I was taking out my gas tank today so I can begin to restore the underside of my 72 Skylark. As soon as I lowered the gas tank and was feeling for the wire that connects to the sending unit I felt a piece of paper on top of the gas tank. I saw that it was taped on there so I carefully pulled it off and to my surprise it was the factory build sheet for my car. And even more to my surprise the build sheet was in great shape, no water stains, no rips, really no discoloration, and all parts of it were legiable. How cool is that. Is this an odd place to find a build sheet? I thought the factory usually put them in the interior, is that true?
That's a great find, Andrew! I'm thinking about dropping my tank this summer for just that reason. These docs are frequently found there.
Andrew, If it's the Production Order Final, as stated above, you may want to pull up the bottom of your back seat. That's where mine was for my 72 Skylark. It was a Fremont car.
Mine was also a fremont car, but it is the build sheet, not the final order body doc. It shows my car was sold new to a dealership in Washington, and shows all of the options etc...
gas tank paperwork That is a great find. I've also found documents on top of the gas tank, and I've never figured out how they can live so long there and still be read. Seems like there ought to be SOME moisture damage. Reid
