Just found the dealership where our Stage I was sold. Got the dealer code from the documentation I just received from Wayne Roberts. It's 09-252. Looked it up on Mark M's list. The dealer is Tatone Buick Inc., Fairborn, OH. I was told the car was sold in S.W. Ohio and this confirms that story. Fairborn is just 5 miles down the road from me. Unfortunatly the dealership is no longer in bussiness. I guess between old man Tatone and his two sons their where several dealerships in Fairborn using the Tatone name. There is only one left it sells Daewoos and Suzukis :Dou: . I called them and was told that their dealership had no affiliation with Tatone Buick Inc. Dead end. Not that a dealership is going to let you go digging in their archives, if they even have any. Oh well. Still hoping to find the original owner.

    Easy

Just go downtown Dayton (Montgomery Ct courthouse I believe), with a copy of you title or registration, and have them run a tilte search. It used to be free in Hamilton county, but they may charge a buck or 2. Anyway, they will (or should) have a record of every owner of that title in the county. :Smarty: :beer

My GS originally also came from OHIO.

I think it was $2 to run a title search, and I ended up with a Windows 2000 screen print of a 'Query Not Found' message.

    Good Luck :beer

Just got off the phone with Montgomery Co. and Greene Co. They both said that they used to do this for $2 but where no longer allowed because of new privacy laws.  Maybe I can try the state or find someone that has connection with a county official.

Maybe someone in law enforcement could help.

    Tatone Buick

    Shayne,

I have a 70GS455 convertible that was sold at Tatone Buick in Fairborn also. Apparently at one time it belonged to someone who was stationed or worked at the Wright-Patterson airbase as it has a Aircraft Owners & Pilots Assoc. sticker on the windshield. Although I received the Protect-O-plate with the car, I had it verified through Wayne Roberts also. It's a very original unmolested GS that is currently in the body shop for some freshning up.

    I don't believe them Shayne.

Just like selling or buying a house, it is a public record, or at least was... :eek2:

I'd challenge it, insist on talking to the head of the department, remember the squeeky wheel gets the grease. :af:  :blast:

It sounds more like policy than LAW to me. :Smarty:

For what it's worth, AOPA is an organization for private pilots and owners, so in and of itself that doesn't imply any connection to Wright-Patterson AFB.

Try contacting the police dept theft division. I tried this with my 69 and was able to get a copy of the original MSO and all the titles. Explain to the officer what you are trying to do and most will be glad to help.

That's an idea. I have a few friends that are officers.

    Thanks

    Shayne,
I have experienced the same thing with the title searches. Years back I was able to call the Montgomery Co. and the the lady actually gave me the information over the phone. All she asked for was the VIN. Those days are gone. My dad worked at Tatone for a short period of time as Body Shop Mgr. in the mid 70's. During that time he bought our 66 Wildcat that someone had traded in.
BTW, if you run across anyone that has any Shannon Buick (now Reichard)stuff please let me know. My dad worked there from 67-70 as the Body Shop Mgr. and got the daily use of brand new company cars.
This may be a bit of a long shot but it may be worth posting an ad in the Fairborn paper seeking anyone who may have worked at Tatone at the time.
You may be surprised at the replies you get.
Good luck with the search. I'll let you know if I can come up with any means of getting your info.
    Mark
