this made my day. i just got a phone call, jw found the build sheet for my car. seems it was hidden somewhere in one of the a pillars. i never tore into the car to find it, just looked under the dash, seats, carpet, and pulled the post covers, and had pretty much given up any hopes of finding it. he said it is brittle, but its there and its readable. build date 10-16-69 wow, happy birthday stage 1.

anyways, near the upper left hand side, it says special z , anybody know what that means ?

jim, thanks again for calling me with this great news. :TU:

Z was the sales code that year for Harvest Gold. Any chance your car has that paint?

btw, it also lists a remote mirror, and black bucket seat code, but the car has a manual mirror, and white buckets. always did. the fisher body number is correct. henry

    Henry,
It sounds like one of the big "Body Shop Inspection" sheets. They all had the words "SPECIAL PAINT" written down the left side in small letters. They were used for vehicles that required; special painting instructions, body repairs, had special body parts installed (like rear spoilers), or for cars that were randomly selected for quality control.

I talk about these sheets in the article I wrote for the BPG newsletter. It will be in the next issue.

PS. I wouldn't mind having a copy of the front and back for my records. Hint Hint.

    Henry,
The vin number and body number are both listed on that sheet. You should check to see that they both match. I have seen crazier things on build sheets.

i will check into that. i know he said the body number is on there, and m 20 for the transmission, and many others, i dont think we discussed the vin. thanks, henry

It is the big body shop inspection sheet on one side, the other has selected UPC codes, and the Fisher body number. No vin appears, unless it was on the part that was missing. But I have about 95% of it here..

Pictures when I get home tonight, in about an hour.

No writing was visible on the backside, which leads me to believe that because Henry's car is a 48/19 two-tone paint, is the reason it has this sheet. No evidence of a sign off for repairs.

Interestingly, it shows a trim code of 188 for the interior, which is the deluxe black buckets, but it actually has code 185 in the car.. Deluxe white buckets.. the cowl tag also says they should be black.. but, unless someone change the complete interior (including the headliner, all the windlaces ect..) before Henry bought it in the late 70's, then it's a factory mistake.

If anyone on the list ever worked at the assembly plants during the 70's, I'd be curious to know how often the wrong parts got installed. If they made a special form for recording fixes, would that indicate mix ups were common?

    Jim,
The Vin # is on the front, at the top right hand corner in small numbers. I can see it from the pics, but can't read it.
    Duane

PS. If you check the date codes on the seat frames and headrests you should be able to figure out if the interior was changed, or was a factory mistake.

so its a body shop inspection sheet ? pretty cool stuff anyway. as far as a changed interior goes, i bought the car on 3-17-77 from the second owner, and i knew the original owner, both of whom lived within a mile of me. i am absolutely certain the car came with the white interior. i'm sure they wouldnt stop the assembly line because of a wrong color interior. i think they would just put it in, and send on down the line.

first owner changed the wheels to rally 500"s, changed the radio, chucked the headrests, and installed the 455 70 bonneville fender emblems on the hood scoops when the car was new. people did those things back in the day.

jim, thanks for posting the pics. henry

    Duane,

That's the body number and model designation that your looking at in the upper RH corner. (77113 and 44637)

Same numbers that are in the larger print below.
