Hello all. Let me assure you this posts purpose is not to brag, just to tell a few short stories and ask a few short questions. I bought a smashed but running 72 Riv in 1995 for $250. Kept the motor/trans (and the 4-note horns) and sold the rest for about $325. Tally: one 455 for $0. In 1997 while my 59 was getting some rear frame tweakage, the chassis guy (a good friend) gave me the bare 455 block (just block & main caps) he used for mocking up the frame mounts & trans crossmember. Tally: two 455s for $0. In 1999 at my local salvage yard, I spied a complete 70 Electra tucked away in one far corner- with hood stuck shut. Tally: three 455s for $150. Today I was in the small junkyard of a long-time body shop- looking at a completely shot 59 Buick parts car. Again- off to one side sits a complete 72 Electra 225. Ran when came in not that long ago. Was quoted $200 for engine only- I will buy it as soon as time from work allows. Tally: four 455s for $350. Heres the rundown: 1970 #1231738 - small oil galley, complete minus heads, intake & exhaust manifolds (since sold). 1971 #1238861 - big oil galley, bare block & caps only. 1972 #1241735 - double scallop block, complete minus heads, intake & exhaust manifolds (since sold). and what should be: 1972 #1241735 - complete My plan was to use the first 72 block- I already completely disassembled, cleaned & deburred it. I would like to sell one- it would be easist for me to sell the bare 71 block... or should I transfer the crank/rods out & sell the 70 block because of the smaller oil gallery?? I know these can be drilled larger- is it worth the time to swap the internals out and sell the 70 block over the 71? Also- what is the market value for just a 455 block & caps these days? By the way- I know where a 75-76 Electra is sitting, in the driveway but unmoving for the last maybe 4 years. On inflated tires but rather rusty. I should take a drive, shouldnt I???
Very nice! Don't you think you ought to find a car to put some of them in??? I've been pretty lucky. I've got a complete running 455 for $100 (supposed to be a 75, but I think it's a 76). I could have picked up a 70 SF core motor for $100, but I no longer have a garage, and one motor in my small 5x10 storage unit is filling it up. Rick Henderson ended up with that one. They're around if you look and are patient.
I just rescued 3 455's (75,73, 72) a 430(69), 2 350(69,74) 10 transmissions! For free! from a local guy who was into buicks came up to me a few weeks ago at a car show and tells me he junked 4 455's!:af: Threw them in with junk cars for weight!!:ball: He's a hard one to deal with if he says the sky is red you just have to agree!uzzled: There's another guy here I've rescued a few 455's from he does derby cars he likes 225's and buick wagons, You got to watch cause he blows them up on purpose! :stmad: Goes to lunch puts a brick on the gas pedal lets it run full throttle till it blows :blast: It's kinda a joke to him he likes to rub it in! Got one- a '59 Invicta 2-dr- already set up for a 455 (frame mounts done), TH400 (crossmember fab'd) and a Dana 60 (entire rear suspension & axle built & installed). The other engines are just cores & back-ups. I'm looking for a '40s Ford cab-over currently for my next future project. Since they have flathead V8s with a mere 85 or 95 HP, even a stock rebuilt 455 might be rather interesting under that doghouse....
Hi all. I know where a complete 70 455 is in the Cincinnati Ohio area. The price is around $250. One nice thing is that it would be super easy to pull as the tranny is allready gone and even the motor mount bolts are removed. Hook up a chain and yank it out. Its been there at least 2 years that I know of. PM me if anybody is interested.
