Well, I bought a stablemate for my '73 Stage1, it's a '69 Riviera with just over 32,000 miles on it and it is incredible. It's gold with saddle buckets/console and disc brakes, best of all, no vinyl top. I saw this car listed on eBay this past summer and e-mailed the guy, it never sold and they never relisted it, but it always stayed in the back of my mind and one day, while looking through a bunch of stuff, I found his number and called him. I set up a time to go see it last week, and fully expected a 133,000 mile car as I figured he just thought it was 33,000! To my surprise I pulled up to a remote house in southern Indiana and found one of the most original, well-preserved 1969 Riviera's on the face of the earth. Best of all, I drove it away for a song. Turns out, the guy's pictures were so bad on eBay, everyone assumed it was a piece of junk. I knew, after talking to him, that (if it was true) a 33,000 (which actually turned out to be 32,300!) mile car with buckets and a console and disc brakes, also LOADED with all the power stuff, including cornering lamps, was well worth what the max bid had been and to my surprise, he accepted my offer which was was just over half of that figure! Just goes to show you, don't ever throw away those phone numbers! I plan to buff the 100% original (never a lick of body work) paint and otherwise detail the car, I will probably go through the motor as well. I am PUMPED about this car! My first car in 1984 was a '69 Riv and this this thing is one hell of a timecapsule, in more ways than one for me. I've got some pics if anyone can show me how to post them, I will.
'69 Riviera... If someone has time, give me directions on how to post the pics and I'll get right on it, I'm not much of a computer whiz (yet!), also, looking for a 3.42 Posi for a '69 Riviera, any leads?
Congratulations, I was looking for a 69 Riv also and I remember the Ebay ad. You're right, the pictures were so bad I assumed the car was a POS. I am glad it worked out for you and can't wait to see good pictures of your new beauty. Kevin
Pics of my "survivor" Riviera... I think I figured this out (how to post these pics, that is), so here is the first...
This thing needs nothing but buffed... I rubbed a small spot and the paint looks like new, it just has a film of dirt all over it from sitting twenty some-odd years! Chrome is as new, still sitting on original tires!
Well, there you go... It was covered and in a garage for twenty-plus years, there is absolutely ZERO rust. Should make a nice stablemate for this, my other love...
Nice rides! I did the same with 2 of my cars. My 67 Riv was advertised in the newspaper but I called the owner a year later. He still had the car and his asking price went down! I contacted the seller of my 75 Electra when I saw it on Auto Trader but the owner wouldn't make a price. In fact, he asked his son to take offers and to sell it to the highest offer! I didn't like the idea so I didn't look at the car or make an offer. Almost two years later, it was still for sale and the seller now had an asking price! He went much lower when I checked the oil pressure on the 64k engine and told him it would need to be rebuilt! Now, it has 80K on it, still not rebuilt, and it's not much worse than it was!
That is a really, really nice Riv, one of my favorite years, and check out the wild console! And Only 32 000 miles! WOW!
Beautiful cars, now you have to decide which to take to a show. Certainly an enviable position to be in. Kevin
Or... I could just buy a new truck and three-car wedge and haul both of them, along with my 1971 Dodge 440 Magnum Polara cop car! Who am I kidding, my wife's P.O.'d as it is!
I just noticed that the tires look like the triple whitewall tires. If you have time, could you take pics of them and tell me their size and brand. Thanks!
