I did a search but I guess I might be missing it,I'm putting this into my 1964 riviera. Where does the yellow and purple wires go onto the ford solenoid? I have the main power going to the starter and the "S" on the original starter but I'm not getting anything, Thanks Gerry

There's three or four terminals on the "Ford" solenoid, depending on which part number you actually buy. Some of them don't have the "I" terminal.

There's the two big terminals: main power in, and the main power out.

There's the two small terminals: an S terminal and (sometimes) an I terminal.

Are you saying you now have the "Ford" solenoid in-line with your main power cable to the starter, but the purple wire on the original Delco "S" terminal? If so, yeah, that's not going to work. You have no power to the starter except through the tiny "S" terminal.

You need to put the purple wire that WAS on the Delco "S" terminal onto the "Ford" "S" terminal. You ALSO need a copper strap or an extremely short jumper wire to electrically connect the main power input and the "S" terminal on the DELCO starter solenoid.

If you have points, you need to install the resistor bypass wire (probably the yellow one you mentioned) on the "I" terminal of the Ford solenoid.

Forget all that wiring mess & get one of my "NailHead" mini-starters.

Soon tom.. Just dropped a bunch of money into the car and my wife will kill me if I say that I need one more thing :) ..
As of now I have the main wire on the delco solenoid strapped to the "S" on the delco solenoid. I have a 4 stud ford solenoid which I have the "battery" and "starter" wires terminated, So now the "S" from the Delco goes onto the "S" on the ford... but where does the yellow go to?. I dont have points anymore, I have a ignitor 2 ignition. Thanks

I don't know about Ignitor ignitions. If it uses a ballast resistor or the OEM resistor wire, the resistor bypass ("I" terminal on the "Ford" solenoid) will receive the wire that used to be on the "R" terminal of the Delco solenoid.

Put another way: What was on the Delco solenoid S and R terminals now goes to the Ford solenoid S and I terminals. The only thing connected to the Delco solenoid is the main (heavy) power cable, the jumper from the main cable to the S terminal, and the bolt-and-copper tube to the very bottom of the solenoid.
