Has anyone installed or knows anyone who has put a ford 9" in their Skylark or GS? I need a posi unit for my car and have run accross one with 3.50 gears, posi, set up for GM A-body, came out of 442, and best of all has rear disc brakes...professional build by driveline shop. He wants $500 for it which seems to be in the ballpark of a 12 bolt. Any thoughts or opinions.

I just have a standard skylark so keeping it original is not my goal. I want to build it for an enjoyable and reliable street car.

    NJBuickRacer I'd rather be racing...

If it's in good shape, $500 is a great deal. The 9" rear is one of the only things ford did right.

Ballpark? Jump on that baby. It would cost over 1500 to have one set up, with the disc brakes. Since it was already in an "A" body, you know it will fit.Good luck with it! :TU:

Dave Knutsen has one in the "blue car." It has disc brakes too.

    I'd jump on it!

The one I bought from Currie was about 3K new with disc brakes on it.

Stage I Scott, on this board, runs one in his 72 'lark. He likes the idea of changing gears after traveling all the way across country, driving it of course, and then racing it. I don't believe he's had any problems. As far as the price goes, your stealing it....grab it quickly

I put one on the '66 I used to have. Here's a pic of the setup. I wanted to have a sway bar but the original A-body style bar wouldn't clear the bottom of the 9" pumpkin. I went with PST for the suspension and they recommended the sway related items shown in the pic.

I was seriously thinking of going with a 9" but a friend told me they are noisy so I went with a 12 bolt instead. Funny thing is that my rebuilt 12 bolt whines like a set of studded snow tires. The guy that I bought it from is 9 hours drive away from me. Ebay is a risky place to buy a rear or anything else for that matter.

IMO rear discs are overrated. I used to think they were the coolest thing until I had two Ford trucks with them. The rear drums stop better. If you're circle track racing yeah go with rear discs because they get rid of the heat but if you're interested in stopping I'd go with rear drums. I'm sure people out there are gonna say well I have 'em and they stop like crazy. To that I say, it just ain't worth the trouble or money.

$500 for that setup is a definate steal. Buy it and if you don't like it, you could probably sell it for three times what you paid for it.

    deal

A payed about $ 800.00 from Moser Enginering for a ford 9" housing and two 31 spline axles made to bolt into my 69 skylark.

Grap it and you can always sell it.
