Tony recently started a thread on blocking the heat crossover passages on a 430. Using 18mm freeze plugs to plug the holes in the head was recommended. Are these holes accessed by removing the intake manifold?

    Thanks,
    Danny

Heres a note for the small block guys. 18mm soft plugs do NOT work in the 350. They slide right through. I just found that out tonight. I'll get 19mm or 3/4" and try again tomorrow.

    Dan,

I did this to my 350 last time I had the intake off. I tapped out the holes and screwed in the plugs. When you do tap the holes use LOTS of penetrating oil and go slowly. I actually broke off the tap in the hole!! Then I found out about tap removers, wonderful tools!! I ended up buying three of the same size in an ebay auction. If my digital camera didn't break I'd take a picture of the busted tap, my dad was kicking me in the a** when he found out I had a 1/2" breaker bar and pipe extenstion on it!

If you need to know the sizes I can look tonight. I know I bought everything (except the tap remover) at the local hardware store. I think they were 3/4" NPT

    Thanks Ken,

I bought a 3/4 plug tonite to try. I was gonna try to JB them in place. This is for my new daily driver, so I'm not blocking them totally. I'll probably drill a hole in the centers. I'm kinda experimenting with this one so when I do the intake swap on the Regal I'll be set.
