Texted Jim Rodgers; he’s ok but lost power, has trees down and scattered shingles. Valdosta got hit pretty hard. Patrick
The day after update brought to you from Walmart parking lot 10 miles from the house. Good news is the house, shop, and all but one car came through un scathed. A tree came down on top of one of the parts cars and took out the back glass. The Truck and race car trailer were usually parked right there so it was a good call pulling everything up close to the shop. Probably 20% of the trees in my yard are either up rooted or snapped off. Its a giant mess. Cell service , land line and internet went down early afternoon yesterday which is why Im sitting in the van, in the parking lot using a hot spot on the phone to connect to the web. Last evening I went out looking for cell service and came across a out of town tree service with 10 guys and 3 bobcats working in the neighborhood. Got an est of 10K for clean up. Got them working on it now. Unfortunately thats less than 1/2 my hurricane deductible so no help there. Looks like all service in my area will be off for at least the next several days. will have to ration the last 45% of the propane tank. It ran 14 hours yesterday and used about 5% of the estimated 125 gals still in there when the storm hit. Keeping tabs on both of my elderly neighbors. One has a gen and the other , a 95 yr old guy living alone does not. I'll try and see if I cant hook him up with something today. If any of you need or want to get ahold of me try my cell or messenger.
I wish everybody impacted by this storm well and a fast recovery........but nobody is talking about the 2000 children missing in Lahaina and the other dead....let alone all the cars with rivers of melted aluminum where the wheels used to be.....but the MSM don't want you talking about that...... Peace WildBill
I have no regular TV .......did they mention all the missing children who were told to stay home that day? Peace WildBill
hey Steve, I am heading over to Alexander City AL. tonight. Am I going to have issues finding gas on I-75? Fernando
OMG...the expert has spoken....i will have no more to post here....glad things were not too bad for you Briz Peace WildBill
Here's some info about Travel Centers of America, aka TA and Petro truck stops. You can also find locations on or near your route. Not seeing any closures yet. https://www.ta-petro.com/location-updates Here's Loves Travel center's hurricane update page with locations possibly affected. https://www.loves.com/weather
Stopped at the second exit in GA, first place had bags over the handles, second place was ok. My next stop will be in AL should be no problem there. Thanks Fernando
Todays update brought to you from the local hospital parking lot. No I didnt get hurt ... again, just got good signal here and its much closer to the shop. The hired tree guys showed up and did about 1/2 the job contracted and then the kid had the nerve to demand cash instead of the check written off my company as agreed. Stuff is all piled up but not where FEMA can get to it. some trees got totally missed. Instead of arguing with the guy I wrote the check and sent him on his way. Other than that alls well. Gen is still running fine. Used 15% of the tank so far with 40% of the 250 Gals left. Gonna shut her down and do a oil change later
Oh yeah and it gets better. He says something to the effect Your an A/C guy... I know you have piles of cash in there..... Then I over hear one of the other guys saying to my dog... I hope you dont bite me when I come back later.. They saw some of my cars when the shop was open and another flat out said they'd be back later to steal my stuff.. I then said loud enough for all of them to hear Id shoot him dead without warning if I saw any of them on my property uninvited.
Oh and Yea!!! The internet , cell service and landline came back on about an hour ago. No more morning trips into town to check messages and return calls.
