Flat Tires for Dummies

This is not a pretty story.

After about a year in storage my 71GS had a flat tire on the front tire. Hey it's a slow leak, so I buy one of those cigarette lighter pumps for $40. Then find out my cigarette lighter doesn't work. So put another (rental)ncar close up and start pumping to no avail. The rim bead is broken.

Spare in the car is new with nipples on it and all. Many years old but never used. It pumps up great, on a nearly new 15" chrome wheel. So I change tires in the storage space and am ready to go. Pull the car out, and put the pump back in the rental car.

As I turn to look at the GS, the front tire is going down fast. Damn spare is gushing out air. Now, the car is blocking the aisle at the storage facility, and it's 8:30PM. Not sure if I can get the tire fixed that I just took off. So in backing about 20 feet back into the storage locker the tire flattens all the way, comes off the rim, and bends the rim.

Leaving out other details which would only confirm my stupidity, my question is whether a bent rim can be fixed. Talk about feeling like a dumb ass. A simple $25 flat tire turned into a $100 job. Kind of like that oil change joke that was on here a little while ago.

Again, can a bent rim be fixed or is this wheel toast?

Yes, it can be fixed. Are you back in the US?

Am in USA this week until Saturday. Managed to get all three cars running again, which involved new batteries for the Riv and GN, and fixing a flat on the GS.

Took the GN out Saturday night looking for trouble. Saw a nice 68 Stang and a couple 69 GTOs out there but couldn't catch a light with them. Anyway, there was too much traffic to be safe. Either way it's been good to get the cars out for some cruising.
