I put a high mile engine into my GS which runs well, except at RPM's above, say 2500. I get an intermittent "popping" in the carb. Not a major backfire on accelleration, but a predictable popping which varies with engine speed and throttle angle like a single cylinder is not flowing right. My instincts tell me I probably have a flattened cam lobe. Carb is pretty new, headers, duals and Flowmasters are real new. Engine is tuned and has a Pertronix. (It did it with points as well). Any ideas? o No:
Pull the valve covers and run the engine, see what happens. If one rocker is rocking much, there's the problem. Then check to see if it's a beat lifter or cam.
True true, no that you mention that, I remember my buddy had a 305 firebird with simialar thing, ended up being cracked retainer... At anyrate, pull them valve covers.
