    Please help me!

I actually have some pics of my car I will share and intended to when I joined but when I bought the car the ignition switch worked without a key and I'd be pretty sad if anybody jacked my car.

SO, I bought a ignition cylinder lock switch on ebay and I am having a hard time disassembling and removing the lock. I have it pretty torn apart and found some stuff online including the tilt steering column wobble from buickperformance (I'd put the hyperlink but I am too new:()

I am about 10 pics down on my progress but I cannot get the cylinder out. Please help! Here is a pic of where it is at now.

Not sure why you took it apart so much to do a lock cylinder?

The first thing you should do is buy yourself a copy of the factory Buick service manual. Here is the page on how to remove the cylinder. I use a small thin screwdriver instead of the steel strip they mention in the book.

I can't tell by your photo if the slot is open in your shaft or not. Can you get a shot of it showing the center section ???

They come through with the slot closed off, you have to punch the slot out to be able to get to the button to get your switch out.

I hadn't done one in years and I hate to admit it but I couldn't remember at the time were I had to punch the slot out so I took a slide hammer and pulled my switch out that way, once it was out I saw were it was and nocked the slot out before I put my new switch in.

    Good luck :TU:

If I were you I would buy a set from OPG to get the Ign and the door set up with the same key.

    http://www.opgi.com/p/body-moldings-trim/240/73/KK26046.html

OPG also has a complete set up with every key and lock set, I bought one for my car and changed everything from door, trunk, glovebox and Ign..

I am trying to upload a picture but how do you access the slot? Is it off of the front. If one were to use a paperclip, etc. does it go in the front or maybe from another angle?

Thanks ALL for your help. I'll upload a pic here when my phone decides to cooperate.

Below is a pic of my chaos, I mean progress. :idea2:

I understand the directions but am having a hard time knowing where this slot is. Is it at like 12:00 almost at the top?

Its the vertical slot just to the left of the key buzzer switch. it hasnt been poked through. Get a small thin screwdriver and push it into that slot. The screwdriver will pierce the thin flashing that is covering the hole.

Put the key in the lock cylinder and turn it to the on position, stick the screwdriver in the slot to depress the little tab holding the cylinder in place and pull the lock cylinder out.

Yup it looks like the slot isn't open on yours, you will have to take a punch or a screwdriver and punch it out. By the photo look just behind the top (front) horn button contact and just below that screw mount. You will have to punch that metal out of that area to get at the push button on the Ign. Cyl.

You may have to give it a good rap to get it to pop out, or you may have to hit it a few times to open it up enough.

Take a look at the link for the repair manual, that will help you see were you need to be also.

    Good Luck :TU:

Gotcha. I penetrated that flash metal and it sure felt good going in.

I messed with it for a little but ran out of daylight. I will find that little black tab and depress it tomorrow and see if I can get it out.

I would have never found that hidden slot. Thanks.

Messed with it some more tonight and cannot get it to come out. I actually found two flash holes; a real thin on the right and one a little fatter on the left both veritical maybe 1/16" apart.

Either way whatever I jammed in there to try to release the black tab, nothing seemed to happen. I was tempted to start drilling out the housing deal but I stopped myself and called it a night.

Any pointers? It seems like the tab is rotated a tad up but dangit it is pissing me off.

Got it! Thanks for the help.

I had the tab pushed in and it started to come out but it was just bound up with burrs and whatnot inside the column.

I got it out, put the new one in and she is back on the road again. I am pretty sure I put everything back together just as i found it but the GT steering wheel is mising the metal bar that activates the horn but no biggie.

I'll take some pics of the ride and post it. Next up is a radiator swap.

I have the same problem with my horn. As a stopgap measure, I have an aftermarket horn button on the floor under the carpet. I mash it with my foot to blow the horn.

Ya I ran out of time to figure mine out this spring, I wanted to get the car on the road. I added a horn button to the side of my center console (on my seat belt holder) . I'll get the steering wheel horn working this winter when there's snow on the ground and I'm not driving the car. :Brow:
