Here is a pic of the firewall wire block below the master cylinder. There are 2 wires that are not connected looks like a pink and a green on the bottom of the block. Any idea what these are for and what I should be looking for to connect them to? I have no tailights at all could this be part of the problem? Thanks, Kevin[IMG] :Do No:

My '71 chassis manual presently on loan to another fellow.
Will look once I get it back, 70 & 71 shouldn't be too far apart in wiring.
Do yourself a favour....have a close look at the 3 way joint in the large pink/red conductors. What is this for?? Are you running the right fuses??? This is how trouble starts.

BTW....Winterport is absolutely beautiful. Spent a long weekend there at a local B&B.

    I LOVE wiring diagrams!

My '71 Chassis Manual doesn't indicate top or bottom of the firewall connector (that I can tell...) but shows:

    1. pink and green wires coming out beside (or above/below) eash other, the pink goes to a vacuum solenoid (don't know where), then becomes pink/black and goes to the trans downshift solenoid (M40 only) and Trans pressure switch. I think that's for THM 400s only, not sure. The green one goes to the water temp switch for the idiot light.

    2. on the other half of the firewall connector (look closely to see two halves), there is a dark green wire that goes to the horns, and a light green that goes to the low beam headlights.

    Tail Lights?

Your tail lights are powered by a brown/white wire, starting at the fusebox, going to the main light switch. Coming out of the switch is one brown wire, which splits somewhere in the harness to go to the front and back of the car. To the rear, it goes to the body main wiring connector (in the trunk, left side front?) and then to the bumper harness connector, then to all the rear lamps.

    Turn signal / Brake lights?

The brake light circuit somes from the Stop/Hazard fuse, orange wire to the stop light switch, then white wire to the steering column connector to the turn signal switch. Brake lights are wired through the turn signal switch, to light both side "turn signal" lamps for brake lights.

Turn Signals are fused by the Dir Sig / Back Up fuse (same one that fuses the pink wire in #1 above) , this pink wire goes to the flasher unit, becomes purple, then goes to the steering column connector to the turn signal switch, where you get a black/yellow (left) and a dark green wire (right). They both go to the steering column connector, where the black/yellow (left) becomes yellow (still left). These two wires go to the body wiring connector (in the trunk), then to each side of the car (again, yellow = left and dark green = right)

Note that there is a left side ground for all left lamps, and a right side ground for all the right ones, so if you've got brake lights and or turn signals, you've got a good ground for the tail lights (unless, of course, you've got a broken wire...)

Hope all this helps, let me know if I need to clarify...

Proof that a Picture is Worth a Thousand Words!

    Glad to help!

I like your sig. line about fixing things until they're broke, I been doing that all my life, finally I can explain myself!
