I'm looking to buy the under dash insulation / firewall insulation for my '71 GS.I have been looking at all the A-body catalogs and I have noticed the firewall insulation varies a bit between catalogs. Ground up and opg have it the cheapest at $29.95...to Soff seal at $57.20, and many more in the middle.I'd like to know is there a difference or will I get what I pay for? Anybody have a good, bad or ugly story about this kind of project?

We just put the under the dash and firewall pads in our 70 GSx project. OPG was a nice product. Get extra studs as you may break some in the install of the firewall pad. Lube them a bit.

Got mine from YO. Other than being very little fun to install, the fit/function was right on.

    Firewall pad

Well.....lets just say things are not going as good as your projects. Specifically the fit of some of the pre-punched holes, namely the A/C grommet, around the fuse box and the accelerator cable hole. It seems I really have to stretch this pad to have it line up around the A/C grommet hole, and it's bunched up around the fuse box. I guess I'm going to have to walk away from this for awhile to cool off. Is this something you guys experienced, or I'm being a big baby? :ball:

Just being a big baby .... Thought that might get you going. Sounds about as much fun as I had. Take some time to reline things up. Jute side goes towards the firewall (I know, DUH) Get things started in the middle, top of the panel. Work towards the driver side, then to the a/c box. Use long bolts to get things in the right place, then push in the grommets. Sounds a little rookie-ish, but you may find the problem this way.

Is it possible that they sent you a '63-'67 piece?

    Good luck,

    Jim
