Hey guys, here it is. I've been posting a lot on this board (and getting a LOT of good info), and finally I got my digital camera set up, so you can all see what my car, or as she's known to family and friends, The Beast, looks like. Let me know what you think!

Also, you can see my dads NICELY restored 64 Chyrsler 300 - K convertible in the background. She has a 413 Max-Wedge engine, with the crazy-cool Cross-Ram intake manifolds. If you've never seen these before, I attached an old press photo below. as you can see, its a 2 peice manifold, with the left side carb (hung out past the valve covers) feeding the right side cylinder bank, and vice-versa. Gave you some wicked long intake runners, and makes for one damn powerful engine. PRetty cool stuff, huh? Anyways, you can't tell cars run in our family, can you? Nawwww!

Oh, and heres a link to a pretty good article on these engines with the early cross ram-intakes. pretty good reading for anyone into engines and who can appreciate creative engineering!

Your car should be named "Black Beauty"it sure is. I am glad a father such as yours has been successful in passing on the passion for old iron. You really have something there. Take care Corey.

    Nice Car....

But is this the one you plan on driving thru winter???... I hope not...

Take it from me, a guy who has been in the auto biz for a while now.

The effects of salt on vintage cars go much farther than just holes in the sheet metal.. every time we take apart a southern car, us Minnesota boys, who consider rusted bolts that break off, and all that fun stuff," normal ", just shake our heads in amazement.

Especially every time a take out a perfect passenger side inner fender, and all the bolts come out.. with ease..

It takes just 1 salty winter to stop that from happening.

I won't tell you what to do.. but I will tell you what I would do.. that being WHATEVER it takes to not drive that car this winter.

    And I do mean WHATEVER!!..

Greg Schmelzer What are you looking at?!

FlaBoy, Please, for the love of Buicks, Don't drive that beauty in the winter. It only takes one idiot to forget how to drive in the snow and ice to take it out. Problem is, they all forget how to drive in the stuff from one winter to the next.

The road salt and gravel also do nothing for the car. I grew up in western Nebraska and saw way too many classics with their rear quarter panels flapping in the breeze.

I'd hate to see a grown man cry.:ball:

Take the Weise one's advice and do ANYTHING to avoid exposing the old girl to danger.

Also, being from florida, you might want to find the nearest retailer for polypro underwear.

David Gramlow will probably back me up on all of this. Winter in ND experience and all.

My girlfriend, a Canadian by birth, laughs at me every time I put on the thermal underwear before going out to work. "It's only 20 degrees, what are you doing?" Man, I just talked to my parents last night, and they had to turn the AC back on this weekend, got pack up into the high 80's. The coldest it gets back home is about 40 degrees in winter, and thats a COLD day. And trust me, driving The Beast through winter is not something I want to do, or am looking forward to doing, but It's rpetty much my only option right now. I just dont have the funds to buy a car. Well, I could probably get my hands on a 200 dollar beater thats dependable, but tags and licencing, not to mention insurance would keep me from paying the rest of my bills (moving violations and the Pinellas County Sherrifs Dept and I go WAAAAY back :) ) So yeah, I plan to just bum a ride off my GF as much as I can, and drive like an 80-year old when I have to. Not to mention take backroads EVERYWHERE. Unless of course anyone in the western MN, eastern ND area has a car theyd be willing to give me, and keep it on their insurance....... Ok, didnt think so. Thanks for allt he compliments, and the concern.

    Just move then....

Hey Corey, awesome ride. Snow wouldn't be a problem if you still lived back in FL. Ad yes, its a high of 88 today! I get a kick out of the weather advisories they send out on the air waves about how to survive in your car if you get stranded in 40 degree temps. How to always carry plenty of blankets etc with you.... Its FLORIDA!!! Sweet car, and I would sure find a beater ride in a junk yard to get running and drive it instead.

    Jon,

I sure do miss the weather back in Sunny St. Pete, my hometown. I just moved up here to the frozen north a few months back, and I sure miss the days of cruising in my dads 64 Chrysler 300-k convert to Biff Burger with the top down in december.... sure couldnt do that here. I actually bought my car from an older guy I met at Biff Burger on one of their cruise nights, he lives more in your neck of the woods, up in north tampa. So theres a chance you saw my car at some point driving around town before it was actually mine. Anyways, thanks for rubbing it in about the temps down there.... :moonu:

Cory, I really like your car man. I actually prefer the wheels and tires in your avatar though. They really set the car off.

That Chrysler is awesome. A vert to boot. Damn nice rides.

    well.......

Gee, not trying to rub it in, after all it does get humid on those warm winter days where we are sitting at the beach with a fishing pole in the water wondering how heavy of a flannel we will need to survive those 60 degree December evenings, and looking for the right amount of christmas lights to decorate our palm trees. No, not trying to rub it in at all. I mean after all, when your scraping snow off your windshield, I will be bitching cause I had to scrape a thin layer of frost off my car. Good thing those daytime temps near 70 warm everything back up... So when you say, I am rubbing it in, what are you talking about??? :Do No:

I have a feeling one of these days I am going to find a handful of BUick members parked on my lawn awaiting their chance to beat me with a club if I keep this up..... :spank:

So why did you move anyhow Corey?

    Jon,

To make a VERY long story VERY short, I can answer your question in one word, and I'm guessing that one word will be enough so that most guys will understand why I did such a stupid crazy thing as moving from sunny florida to good old Fargo. That one word... girl. Thats right, I mvoed here for a girl. I wont subject you to listening to all the details, and hearing my voice change when I talk about her, or seeing my eyes go all distant when I think about her, but lets just say she got a boy who swore his whole life he'd never live anywhere but Florida, to move to the frozen wastelands of North Dakota. She's something special. Dave Gramlow actually met her breifly while we were showing off each otehrs cars at my place, so he can give you a run-down of how amazing she looks... believe me, if you got me started, we'd be here all day. Too bad she's not a buick gal... or else we'd probably be engaged right now. shes into mustangs, which i cant fault her for, they are amazing cars for girls, and as long as it's american iron v-8's, I'm happy. So yeah Jon, thats why I moved up here. And jon, just do me a favor, next time you're driving through Malfuntion Junction on 75 trying to get home, and youre stopped for 3 hours because of an accident, and your car over heats, and yuo have sweat pouring down your face.... in december... remember how nice it can be to be north of the mason dixon  And next time its summer, and you have to go out and mow your lawn, and you have to do it in 20 minute shifts with an hour in between in the AC with a saline drip to recover all the fluids you lost in the 90% humidity and 100 degree temps, just think of me... helll, i dont even have to mow my lawn 8 months out of the year, not like you back home doing twice a week in the summer, and every week in the winter  ok, enough ribbing now, my lunch break is over and i better get back to work!

    Funny!

I would rather sweat than freeze.... I mean given the option of moxing my lawn or shoveling my driveway, I would choose the grass each and every time. I can relate to the woman thing, I moved to MI once for a girl. SHe dumped me as soon as I got there. :af: It was great though, I loved the country side, as Traverse City was beautiful! Fortunately, I dont get caught int eh malfunction junction mess, I am just off the Veterans Expressway at Anderson RD. AS for sweating in traffic, the Convt has working A/C.... and its nice! THose old big compressors are so nice! I have been using this stuff called FR-12 and it works awesome! Its not flammable, and it is compatible with the R-12 systems. Like I have said before, when you visit family, definately drop me a line. Give me some time to brew though.... :beer

Hey Jon, you can sweat up here when its 20 below and shoveling snow, and its a much better workout than mowing a lawn.

I'll choose fat and warm than cold and buff..... :pp Besides, after your thawing out after clearing the driveway, I will be swimming in my solar heated pool trying to cool off..... Oh yeah, sipping some Sangria. :moonu: I am just playing with yall.... I was born and raised in Ohio... I miss the Winters sometimes..... then I realize how many clothes I have to put on to deal with it.

    Keep Warm!
