I saw this in a Ford Magazine the other day, and was amazed that they make one for a buick. Please let me know what you guys think. I am doing the initial start up on my engine soon, and I just wanted to get some feedback.

They have two that are available for buicks, but they are not cheap...:Dou:

    Thanks,

There should be some members here that run them. I've heard good things about them, very strong magnets, but yeah they are pricy. Someone that has one should chime in.

I could see how this could work well, but I'd like to hear from someone who is actually running one. Also I am about to do the initial startup on my car, and was told that during the initial startup, it is normal to get some metal shavings in the oil, due to the break in process. Thats why a lot of guys change the oil every 1,000 miles for the first 5,000.

Has anyone else out there heard that, or am I just going crazy:eek2: ?

    Thanks,

  5. Alan Faircloth had been selling them here last year, but hasn't been around for some time now. I have one on my 350 now. Also have a filter sitting waiting to be cut open to see what it caught... one of these days I'll check it out. They're not Buick specific, you just have to buy the one to fit your diameter filter. I purchased the cheaper one, don't recall the price, and it is one STRONG magnet!!

My Dad always preached to me that on a new engine after the first 20 to 30 minutes of cam break in and minor tuning time always drain the oil and change the filter. That way any particles
that remained in the engine before fire up should be flushed out. I don't think it's necessary to do it 4 or 5 times but it probably wouldn't hurt anything except the pocket book.
I know that after spending all that time and money on a new engine I'd take care of it too.
