OK, so I got my trans problems worked out from the other day but now its leaking fluid from where the tube goes into the trans. I put a new o-ring on but no luck and its not a small leak.

Anybody else ever experience this? I thought if the tube went in the hole and it had an o-ring on it that it should seal? I can't figure this out :Dou: :ball:

Does it leak when you fill it, or only if the car has been sitting a week or more?

I filled it up on the jack stands, ran it through the gears then took it up the street for gas. When I got back I looked under and saw it drip. Within 5 minutes there was a big puddle on the ground.

Hmm, I'm not really sure. Maybe the tube isn't pushed in far enough, or that something is bent or scored. I think I read something about that before on this board.

2 things, make sure the tube is not cracked at teh o-ring indention, and also make sure you use the correct o-ring, it must fit snug in the indentation. Jim Burek

    Thanks guys.

Upon further inspection it appears that the tube is slightly kinked at the o-ring groove. I think this could partially be from the tube never really fitting right with the 455/th400 swap into my '66.

Jim, what year and model of car do you use the tube from when swapping a big block into these mid sixties Skylark/GSs?

I usually use an aftermarket replacement. Most of the tranny cores we get either don't have the tube or they are bent or broken. I jut don't like the chrome ones, if I have to use one of those, I blast the area where the o-ring goes so it will seal better. Jim Burek

I don't mean to butt in on this thread but I am having the same problem with the vac modulator. I pulled it off and made sure the o-ring was good but if it sits for a few days, I'll find a puddle.

Is the fluid suppose to come pouring out of the vac modulator area when it's removed?

Yes, when you remove the vac modulator, fluid will come pouring out. Is your o-ring new? If it is getting hard and flat, it will leak. Jim Burek

Yes, if someone wants one, but they are pretty readily available locally. Jim Burek

i too had a leak at the base of the filler tube even with a new o-ring.
i placed a bead of rv silicone around the base of the tube. no more leak and that has been 2 years.
