Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone can help to figure out the date of the vehicle or of the production! Also, I don’t know if we could figure it out from the Vin number or the plate on the Cowell ?! I’ll attach a picture Vin number: 434370K100498 thanks a lot
You have a very early production car that was likely built within the first couple of days of production at an assembly plant near Kansas City. Date: 08C = 8th month, 3rd week (1969) paint code 34 34 = Aqua Mist paint with no vinyl top. Very nice!
KAN is the Fisher body code, but the VIN says Leeds, MO factory, VIN code K. Started with 100001 for that year. Wasn't there something with a factory in Kansas City, Missouri and also a factory in Kansas City, Kansas? This is what I found online about the KAN and the K:
I've revised my post to say "...at an assembly plant near Kansas City." Yes, the A-body cars were built at Leeds, MO but have KAN on the trim tag.
The old Leeds plant is near the Royals and Chiefs stadiums on the KC, Mo side. The Fairfax plant is in Kansas City, Ks as stated above on the old airport site where the B-25s were built. My buddies grandmother worked there building the B-25 during the war.
I remember when I had to load 5 big (13'-6") mining tyres in Kansas City, but my Rand McNally truck navigation couldn't find the right address. Little did I know that there is also a Kansas City in Missouri, I figured it would be a city in the state of Kansas.
Not sure if the following information is of benefit in this thread: In the case of Flint MI assembled larger Buicks of this era such as the Electra and Riviera, the data plate stated EUC in the place where this data plate in question states KAN. The EUC referred to the Fisher Body plant in Euclid Ohio where the bodies were produced. The bodies were then transported to Flint, MI where the vehicles were assembled. The H in the corresponding VIN for the larger Buicks (such as the K in the vehicle in this thread) was the Flint plant code. Hope this may help. Jim Vesely ROA # 7437 BCA #39477
At one time, Atlanta had two GM assembly plants, Lakewood south of downtown and Doraville on the north. Apparently both were coded as A. (We also had a Ford assembly plant, too; a big one in Hapeville that replaced a small multipurpose assembly/service/sales facility near downtown). That was when we made things in this country. Patrick
