The weather man said warm and sunny today.
But, it was overcast with occasional mist.

Last week at work , i've been working on an US Army artillery range.
There's quite a bit of off roading for the company's 2016 Chev Silverado 4x4.
One of the gullies pulled off the plastic valance panel under the front bumper. It ripped the bolt eyes off. So, it couldn't be re-attached.
The boss said he would send it to a body shop.
I asked him to let me try to fix it.

    That's what I did today.
I drilled out some holes in the plastic to line up with four bolts that go through the bottom of the bumper.
I took a piece of 1-1/4" galvanized steel strapping and cut it into four 2" lengths.
I drilled two 5/16" in each of the cut pieces.
Put bolts through the plastic attaching the strapping. And the other holes on the strapping on the tips of bolts through the bottom of the bumper. And screwed on nuts with nylon keepers on the bumper bolts.
It took me about two hours of my own time. And I scrounged up the strapping and nuts from my garage.
I probably saved them a couple of hundred dollars.
I figured that was the least I could do for my tearing it off.
And they thanked me by giving me a raise!

Overall, it was a good day

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

    Nice, James.
My "fun" started out Thursday night with a call from GR Auto Gallery, where we have consigned our '30 Ford Roadster Pickup. They went to move it and the starter locked in. Fortunately, there is a battery shut-off switch on the floor so the flexplate wasn't damaged. Taking them at their word that the starter gear was stuck into the plate, I picked up a starter. When I got there, Friday late morning, I checked and determined it was the solenoid. Back to the store. The old solenoid was not marked in any manner. The new one had all the contacts in the face as opposed to either side like the old one. I wasn't certain how to orient the new one as it mounted differently. I put the wires on the same way they came off the old one. I turned on the switch, hit the key and I get zip. No one there to help me with test light, I got tired of dealing with it and, after a bit of an anxiety attack, went home. I told the guys there that I'd return Saturday. Well, I forgot and they never reminded me that they are only open by appointment Saturdays! I had my wiring guru friend set to go with me and we would have the problem solved in short order. So, now I get to stew on it all weekend. My friend works the same hours as the business is open so he cannot help. I got a text from a friend, who works nearby, that he can help me. Sorry for my rant.
Stayed home all day. I did not sleep worth a damned last night. Feel like I was beaten with a baseball bat. Wife made some killer chili. We had the gal from across the road from us over for her birthday. Lucky her, leaving for Mexico tomorrow.

Yesterday picked up a 12 Bolt rear for my grandfather, father, son project. Today I will finish weld the rear deck filler panel in place, then it's time to move forward with a couple other minor rust repairs on our 69 GS400 IMG_20170205_160006764.jpg

Finally installed the Poston valve covers I bought last year. It was in the mid 70's and sunny, so I took the wife for a 3-hour cruise around town. Was kinda hoping for another "one man car show" that usually happens when I take the car out because the engine looks killer all dressed up now, but the Mrs just kept asking me to drive. Didn't mind that all...

Trying to source parts for a 46 year old cruise control system for my Skylark.... some of the parts seem to be made of unobtanium. I like the idea of using an original system but may opt for the Dakota Digital kit if these parts are too hard to find or too expensive.

Scoping out class A gas motorhomes. Maybe someone on here has a Damon Intruder or Sea Beeze LX they want to unload?

Finally started to warm up here, it's now up to about 20F out there.

No car stuff this weekend, playing single parent and having to deal with coin club stuff; we're planning on doing a coffee table style picture book for the club's 65th anniversary. So had a meeting yesterday and started sorting out who has what, and where some of the archives all ended up. Good thing my kid loves playing video games, never heard a peep out of him the whole time. Best babysitter ever!

Now, just taking it easy and loading in some coins and a super rare Canadian dollar coin I got yesterday. I'm doing the "archeology" on a Roman Follis from about 300AD right now; as near as I can tell this one came from the London mint:

    So yeah, pretty boring stuff...
