    - Buick 455. Of course! :TU:
    - Nissan SR20DE 2.0L. Powerful, good mileage, reliable.
    - Chevy 305. I had one in my '78 Malibu. Thing ran forever! Smooth too.

    Dislikes:
    - Ford 300ci V6. Had one in my '83 Econoline. Major P.O.S.
    - VW 1.8L 16V. Smart how the valves get bent when your timing belt breaks. :af: God, that Scirocco was an awful car.

  3. 436'd Skylark

    436'd Skylark Sweet Fancy Moses!!!!!

well alo of 327 SBC got forged cranks. Pretty much any marine Motor supplied by the big three had forged stuff. Also, any of the turbo 2.5 Chrysler motors had forged cranks.

    Heres my list:
    Best, excluding any buick..

    1. 92-97 LT1, LT4. A friend has one in a 93 Z, and I couldn';t get over its power from teh factory. IT went from a smooth running Cavaleir to a fire breathing Z28 in a stab of a throttle..

    2. Olds 350- Good runner, good mileage, long life

    3. SBC 400, can't beat the butt loads of torque in a small package...

    4. Chevy 302, I like this one just because of its legend

    5. International I4 152- We have one ina 67 Scout plow truck- lotsa of power, and no problems ever..

    Worst-

Olds 307- weak, bad milage, poor castings

60 degree chevy motors- 2.8, 3.1, 3.4, No power, I've never seen one run good for more than 20 minutes. Plagued by primative fuel injection systems..

my buick 350- Ran ok, even after total tune up, could never manage more than 8 mpg, even with 2.56s and normal driving. hated cool weather, and rattled quite abit. with only 83 K

440 mopar- this is personal one gave me a hernia moving the bare block around.

Volkswagon 1.8- MY girlfriends golf had one with mechanical Fuel injection- never ran well, but when it did plenty of power and 30 plus MPG, it just ever ran well.

    SBB
    LS1
    Ford 4.6/5.4 DOHC engines

    Dislikes:
Ford 351C- boat anchor and very expensive for parts, and obsolete as far as I care
Chrysler/Mitsubishi 3.0L V6- every time I get stuck behind one of those old Dodge Caravans and get gassed with the stench of burned oil I'm reminded of what a piece of crap I'm stuck behind
Chrysler/Mitsubishi 2.2 Turbo- burns just as much oil as the 3.0L V6

My passion is for Buick power, but I must say the most reliable car that I have ever had was a passed down Olds 98 with a 403. Sold it with 230K and it never leaked or used any oil. My turbo V6 leaked blew out the rear main after like 30 miles.

    APVGS Ottawa Go Fast Guy!!

Hey Guys.Interesting thread.I would have to vote for Buick V8`s.Easy to work on.Mopar 318-340,440`s also similar to Buicks(wedge head). Also Chevy in-line 6 bangers 230-250,great running engines.Chevy 283-327 was also good.
Not to pick on Olds too much but the 307 was a dog.Chevy 305(early models)and the 307 won`t get a good vote by me.Later,Tony.

    3.2 V6 78-79

There was a smaller version of the 3.8 Buick V6 that was standard on the downsized Centurys and Regals in 78-79. I believe it was 3.2 Litre. Anyone have experience with one of these?
