Question is simple enough. Just wondering what times they are running, and what there build up is.

    Thanks in advance

    lol maybe

You just might be if nobody else is brave enough to reply. I have seen in the TA parts cat. that someone was in the 11.80's or so. I don't have it out, so i will have to check. But since your the only one to reply that would make you the fastest man in the quarter :TU: "hehe then i guess I can have the 1/8 then

    Robert,
The car you are refering to is Roger Reed's 73 GS-350.
    3700 lbs, 480 HP, 420 torque.....11.65 @ 116 mph.

I'll bet 'ya Roger could get into the mid 10's if he put that sweet small block buick in something that weighed 1000 lbs less, and was a little more aerodynamic than the 73 GS it's in now!

There is a guy in california with a skylark with a Buick 350 who says he has run 11.0's with his car. He raced at Sears point.
He has over $15,000 invested in the engine. It was built by some nascar shop out in california. Jim Burek

    Good pick Lon!

I saw this car run at the '97 Nats. "RUMOR" had it that he was running a sheetmetal intake and somewhere in the neighborhood of 14:1 compression!! We would only have to imagine the rest of the contents.

My pockets are empty so I will have to settle for my 14's. Hoping to be mid 13's this year!!

Hey everyone thank your for the responces!! Does anyone know if these runs are all motor or are they using a lil NOS? Just wondering, I have a few ideas that i am playing with before I start the rebuild.

    Thanks again,
    Robert

Unfortunately, I don't believe NOS is legal in any of the classes at Bowling Green. Oh well...maybe some year. Probably about the same time Richard Lasseter goes online!

Jim B. I have seen this guy out here in California you are taking about. He goes to both Sears Point and Sacremento Raceway. Thats were I met him. The car is a yellow 69 lark post car. He was running a Hogan intake and was having problems with his Alcohol. He was there trying to work it out with the Dominater carb. The guy is cool to talk to. I was there running my car and he ran a set of 11.10&11.20. He was running slow MPH like 106-8. he was shutting it down because the car was " bucking all over the place like a women having the sex of her life" ( thats a quote and have 2 friends that still laugh about it). It would put both tires about a foot in the air. I thought it was a Chevy or maybe a fellow 455 guy but my jaw hit the ground when I saw the 350 in the engine bay. He told he he sat 4 engines all in steps and he was working on another 350 Buick before he puts a 455 together. Whats funny is he told me the only reason he had not put a 455 in it yet was becuse he wanted a block that would handle some real power. I hope to see this guy in the next couple of test&tunes so i can see how fast he got the car to go. might get one of those 350 motors from him and go bracket racing with it.

    Buick 350 Apollo

Our Buick Apollo just ran a best of 11.84 @110.42 yesterday. We run the car in NHRA/IHRA "Stock" eliminator. We have to use stock intake, heads, crank, rods, rockers. Our pistons are stock type with the proper dish (17.3cc). The cam is stock lift, .392/.408 but the duration is HUGE. T350 tranny with a 4.56 rear. Car must weigh a min. of 3420 with driver in J/SA.

A new engine is in the works which we hope will gain a few tenths.

    Good luck with your 350

My dream "street racing machine" is a '62 Nova with a built Buick 350. With hogged out Buick iron heads and a aluminum intake and the right cam I don't see why you couldn't get around 500hp at the crank. All the pro-Buick engine builders i've talked to around here says it could be done but recommends a custom girtle. From what they tell me it'll cost as much as if not more to build a 350 like that as a 430/455 would cost.

That's not all I want to shoot 200hp NOS to it AND run on pump gas. My goal is for 600 rear-wheel hp, with this combo I don't see why I can't. It's never been done before and the only thing keeping me from it is $$$$$$$$. I've been hashing this out for 5 years and i'm hoping to have this project completed with-in the next 5 years.

That much hp in a 2,600 to 2,800lb car should be brutal.

Imagine the look on a Chevy boys face after getting his butt kicked street racing then raising the hood and showing him a Buick 350 staring at him. :bglasses:

When I get this done I was hoping to have 1 of if not the fastest Buick 350s in the country. What do yall think?????

    Ronnie,

Back in the 80's, my uncle's brother-in-law did that swap with a 65 Chevy II. It had a bone stock, 2-bbl carbed motor. The car had a 4:11 posi. This thing was a 'Brute'!! Some of the smokiest burnouts you ever saw - especially considering the motor had over 300,000+ miles on it!!

He used to race some of the local Chevy guys - humiliated quite a few!!

Throw in an overdrive tranny and you'll have quite a ride there!:TU:

Not sure if this number still stands as the fastest. Sonny Seal had gone 11.06 at 120.56 mph with a 1.47 sixty foot time in his all steel 1969 350 Skylark that weighed in around 3540 pounds. His Buick 350 engine was dynoed at 540 hp.

Unfortunately back in 2003 at the Buick Day Event Norwalk, Ohio while past half track a radiator hose either broke or slipped off causing a major water leak, the car made a 90 degree turn hitting the wall at about 100 mph. Thank the Lord, Sonny walked away just shaken up, but the car was a total loss.

I am finding out real fast that it is expensive to go fast with a 350!:dollar:
    Missing some of the detail items included but the big ones add up fast enough;
    bolt kit $500/intake $330/rockers $700/valve-spring-pushrods $500/cam $150/pistons $500/oiling $400/seals-gaskets-bearings $250/flexplate $200/damper $300/timing set $100/distributor-MSD $500/valve covers $120/torque converter $600/headers $350 ...adds to $5500 in parts.
Porting, polishing, carb work is another easy $1000.
add water pump/fuel pump/starter and you are out a couple hundred more. At about $7000. If you have that kind of money in the motor you need to put another $2000 in the trans, differential, maybe a block girdle.
Not too far fetched to say it take $9000 and some serious time under the hood to get in the 12's. Add tires, etc. :Dou:
But it is nice because there are not a lot of fast 350's. All the 455's go fast so it is nice to be the exception.

thanks Sean...I dont want to offend anyone, but the thought of actually street racing a 500 hp car, honestly makes me sick.I wouldnt mind it if it was in safe speeds 50-70 or so... but 500 HP? in that light weight of a car. and actually street racing? You're just asking for trouble... If i put that much into a car it would only pass 70 on the track. Because you are dealing with an insane amount of power. I'm not questioning you driving ability. But I am questioning your common sense.

Do yourself, and us a favor for that matter save it for the track. and hey if your little Chebby friends laugh at you for saying lets take it to the track, and won't go. First of all, they know they probably will lose.Second of all you'll be the better man because frankly, you are probably saving someones life.

Yeah, I might not be to smart with cars...but I think my common sense is quite good for a 15 year old..just think about it...and if you do still decide to go street racing, which you probably will, (who takes advice from a 15 year old?) If you screw up, and total your car, kill yourself or kill someone else. Dont say you werent ever told not too. I couldnt live with myself knowing I screwed up and i ended someones life because a poor decision I made... and dont come back saying it will be on clear streets,blah,blah,blah... You made your intentions clear earlier...

Sorry if it made you mad,or I offended you in anyway...

I just thought you should know that though...

It's been a while since I saw this thread... Since my post in 02, we've gotten a little quicker. Our best has been 11.45 at 115 mph.. This was during a great air day but we still had the car in "bracket mode". Generally we can pick up about two tenths + in all out mode. Lite weight oil and only 2.5 qts., get car to minimum weight for the class, more air in rear tires, etc..

    Buick are way kewl!!!!
