Fast idle won't engage

Have a Rochester Quad 7040244 w/divorced choke. Runs great when warm. When stone cold and you tap the gas-the tang won't pop the fast idle cam up and the choke blade won't close.

You can open the throttle, manually step up the fast idle, the choke blade closes-start the car and the pull off opens up, the engine starts great and you can "blip" the pedal and the fast idle steps down....so most of it works!

The choke coil rod is set correctly. The tang(tab) that should kick the fast idle cam up doesn't even touch the fast idle cam when the throttle is pulled back.

Any ideas? I've been struggling with this one for a while.

    Thanks!

I'm not totally clear on everything your describing but I would guess that your choke thermostat is not working properly.

Check the thermostat to see if it's stuck or broken.

Look at the thermostat rod when the engine is cold, then when its warmed up to see if it moved. Or, when the engine is cold you could hit the thermostat coil with a soldering torch and watch it move.

I think the fast idle cam is incorrectly installed Try to get a pic of one done right. The choke pull off might be bad and not letting it seat.

Thermostat s/b ok-stove box in manifold type. Doesn't bind and moves up and down when temp changes.

Will take some pics and post. If someone can help me get this right I'll buy you an adult beverage of your choice if you are in the Atlanta area!

:Dou: I have constant problems with my choke for a year. Took out the choke thermostat to double check it and it WAS binding, rusted and the rod had slipped off the spring(probably from all of the pushig and pulling).

I really cleaned it, realigned and installed so it wouldn't bind on teh inside of the stove box. This morning I popped the gas pedal and the choke plate snapped shut, the fast idle cam stepped up, car cranked and the fast idle stepped down as it warmed up and I tapped the gas.

Think I got most of the problem fixed-feel kinda stupid if it is something this simple.

I have attached some pics. Thanks for making me think-
