Help! Trying to install the new repro fan shroud I got, and the fan blades are tight against the bottom of the shroud. The shroud is fully on the support and there doesn't seem to be a way to adjust it down any farther. Does the engine need raised, or is there an easier (I sure hope so) solution? Thanks, Baking :beer
Brian, Which fan do you have?? The GS usually came with the 7 blade, 18" fan. The stock 70 fan shroud has a 20" opening. There is a 5 blade, 20" fan that some cars have. THat fan will not work in a 70 fan shroud, you'll need the 18" fan. The 71-72 fan shroud has a 22" opening, and will accept the 20" fan. I'm thinking you have the 5 blade 20" fan.
I have an extra 5 blade fan with clutch sitting around, I'll measure it for you if you want, Brian. If you can use it, you just pay for shipping and it's yours. Needs a sandblast and a coat of paint, but it is usable, it was in my car for 7 years or so, but I found a good 7 blade unit and swapped that in.
I had the 5 blade 20" fan that was too large. I just bought a 7 blade fan that is just under 19" and I was under the impression it should work and the 18" would be too small. The 7 blade I just bought fits in the opening, but just barely. With the shroud installed it's too tight. Should I go with an 18"? http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43384 o No: Thanks again, baking Chris, thanks for the offer, I think I want to stick with a 7 blade if possible.
Yes, The 70 shroud was designed for the 18" 7 blade fan. You should be able to find a stock one if you post in "parts wanted"
My 5-blade isn't for an A-body. I have used in in my A-body, but it and my fan shroud are from a 1973 Riviera. I don't know if they are the same, different, or what, but like I say, I can check
