Makes me think back to when I was a kid in the 60's. There was a battery operated thing you could buy that attached to your bike that made engine noises.
    Vrooom-Vrooom!

I used the tried and true playing cards and a clothes pin method.

My girlfriend and I were joking about this a few months ago. As we cruised past a Prius owner who looked in awe at my 64 lesabre... lol the fact that there are doing it makes me want to throw up. Haha "how's this for a low growl VW?" -hurl-

Awhile back the British Top Gear do a review on a vehicle with engine noise over the speakers and they were pretty upset. I am having a bit of trouble finding the link though.

I bet some of those cars would have amazing exhaust soundtracks (real ones, not audio) if noise regulations were not as much of a concern.

Either an opportunity or the end of the world!! (Re: "Fake" Engine Roar??!!)

Dear Shawn, Dale, MC_Ryan, Justin, Richie, Bill, and V-8 Buick exhaust acoustic tuners, . . . .

Well, there are two ways to look at this:

On the one hand this could be a real boon for us classic car owners. Perhaps we could end up paying for our cars by licensing our unique exhaust sound to companies that want to use it in today's wimpy cars . . .

    On the other hand, could this be another sign of - 2012!?!?!! . . . . :eek2:

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

They will never be able to make a speaker that will fully replicate a v8 engine. Not even the mild ones, but especially not the ones with an aggressive cam, and high compression, and all that. You can feel when an engine has been tuned right. A v8 exhaust channels the sound of thousands of high-pressure explosions working in synch, a speaker channels the sound of a flimsy layer of plastic vibrating. No contest, in my book. :TU:

There was a small article on this new trend in the April Car and Driver and I was SURE it was an April Fool's joke until I read one of the road tests in the same issue, and the car had a fake engine noise generator...

It's the latest high tech spin on a playing card in the spokes held by a clothespin...

I wonder if you could wire about seven of those Soundaktors up to all go off at once... under the hood of a Smart car.

Did anyone see that horrible "comedy" THE DILEMMA with Vince Vaughn and Kevin James? Their characters marketed a fake aggressive sound for electric cars.

It was a Ferrari. It had super quiet exhaust so the car pumped the exhaust sound into the cabin so you could hear that distinct ferrari sound.

Just get a kicking stereo and loop the beginning of Van Halen's "Hot for the Teacher". That will do it :bglasses:
