I recall the factory used something like a waxed paper barrier in both the the doors and rear side panels. It was attached with some sticky around the edges.Any source for this? If not what have you used as a susttute?
Legendary Auto Interiors lists them in their catalog, but it doesn't say if they are the correct original style material or not. You might give 'em a call.
the paper barrier on my gs was all tattered so i just used 4 ml plastic, cut it to size and secured it with thin bead of caulking .
Jim, Those water/vapor shields are available repro for $15-20/kit. I think OPG and PPI sell them. As for the sticky stuff, it was dum-dum. You can use some duct tape to hold them in place or go to Autozone and get the 3/8" round windshield butyl tape and take a small piece and roll it between your fingers to get it down to 1/4" diameter. Outline where the original material was and then press the new water shields in place. I am sure when Duane judges your car, he will make you remove the door panels so he can check for factory installation of the water shields.
I getting ready for him George. Well Legendary does not have the barriers and I do not see them listed at OPG. Are you talking the Parts Place George?
Jim, Ames Performance has become one of my favorite vendors for correct reproductions. Their catalog descriptions state whether it is a correct repo, just a replacement, and then rate overall product quality,....Many GTO items will fit our GS's..... www.AmesPerf.com[url] They do list both paper and plastic water shields. My 66's had plastic ones.
Thanks Walt. Ames did have them but alas they are now discontinued in paper--now only made in plastic.
Here are the ones from www.nationalpartsdepot.com Page 16 of their Chevelle catalog: 1968-72 Coupe, 4 pc set, C-14685-151A, $9.95 set Did not see them listed in my OPG and PPI catalogs.
OPG has them listed under Interior Door Panels on the online catalog. Click on your years panel and check the list. About $11. https://www.opgi.com/product.asp?Pr...id=192&grpcode=24725&yearrange=&chapterid=353
Here's another source for the paper water shields....but they are repos for a Chevelle....maybe they're the same? Ground Up www.ss396.com Located in New York The on-line descriptions are minimal, but they have a VERY nice printed catalog. There are lots of hard to find pieces.....rivets for ball joints, repo bolts with correct head markings, etc, etc....I highly recommend getting a catalog.....
