I am installing rally gauges in a 71 GS that had idiot lights, and was wondering if anyone has ever used the Borg Warner # S767 oil sending unit? I am having trouble locating an AC Delco sending unit, and the only one I have found so far is the Borg Warner. It says "Assembled in Mexico", which makes me wonder if it will work correctly. I have read stories about the sending units from Mexico. I would rather use AC Delco if you know where to find them, or at least a replacement part # since the original (GM # 6462849) was discontinued back in 1984. I do not want the aftermarket gauges, just a new replacement for the factory sending unit. Any ideas or comments will be appreciated. Thanks!!
I got mine at NAPA I could get you the part # tomorrow. I don't recall if it was made in Mexico or not, but will check, think it was $50. The Delco seem to bring in well over $100:shock:.:3gears:
Thanks Dan. If you have the NAPA part #, that would also be helpful. Has anyone ever used the aftermarket oil sending units? I was just curious if they work, and if the needle on the rally gauge seems to be consistant with rpm's, if it's higher when cold/lower when hot, etc.. Thanks for any help.
I think I remember reading somewhere that BB Chebby unit would also work, but may not be calibrated the same.
I've heard from several sources that the factory guages were so in accuarate it wouldn't matter if it was plugged in or not. but hey, thats just what I heardo No:
The oil pressure gauge in my 72 A bodie works fine. Yes it goes up and down with Rpm and reflects hot vs. cold oil pressure. It would be great to have the replacement part# for the sending unit. Mike D.
Thanks for the reply, Mike. Did you replace your sending unit with an aftermarket one, or is yours the original one? If you used the aftermarket type, which brand?
Thanks! Looks like the NAPA one is the way to go since it's made in the USA, and it works!! Thanks to all for the input, and the part #'s.
napa uses echlin for its electrial parts ,which was owned by the same company that owned borg warner.both companies are now owned by standard motor products.
