Ok, I've been needing to get around to planning for the exhaust work for the day when the current system finally goes. Well, it's now going. It's grown a small hole just past the "Y". [I'd say 20 years is a pretty good life for this one.] I want to go from the current single to dual. Here's the caution. I want to add the air flow, but not the noise, and I want it to look basically stock. I just don't want to put something on and then not like the sound. Recommendations?

I'm not looking so much for "maximum" flow. Anything other than the current single system will give a pretty dramatic improvement.

Would a stock-type muffler be enough? The original equipment system is muffler with a resonator in the rear.

    Victor,
If you go to dual exhaust, there will be more noise. No dual exhaust system will be quieter than a single exhaust. If you put on a 2 1/2" dual exhaust and go with the long case Walker mufflers, it will be fairly quiet until you get on it. If you add an x pipe it will even be quieter than that.

I finally put the dual exhaust on. Went with a basic 2 1/4" setup. I don't remember the name of the mufflers, but the place that did it said they were the quietest aftermarket they knew of. It made for a slight big block rumble, but not throaty. It's definitely a different sound, rather than the smoother sounding single. At highway, it doesn't sound that much different. It's mainly what's probably around 900-1200 rpm that has the most rumble. It does feel a little more responsive. Now I have a GS air cleaner housing to prepare.
