What systems are available for a 65-66 Skylark GS?
I'd prefer a mandrel-bent 2.5" system, but both TA and Poston kits require adding on tailpipe 'extensions' to adapt their shorter 68-72 tailpipes to the early cars....and I don't want the clutter of extra joints on my pipes!
Is there a nice bolt-on system avail for the stock-manifolds avail???
If there isn't.....why the heck isn't there?!!
    Thanks!

The GSCA sells a set of 2.5" Mandrel-Bent Exhausts. Comes with both the straight tailpipe and the stock downturned tailpipe. Also has a crossover tube. Can be had with or without mufflers. Uses Flowmaster mufflers when you choose them I believe. Last I checked it was $440 to your door with mufflers.

Walt, I met the Gardners and they are making a stock set up for the '65 cars.
I'm into the TA stuff- on the Wagon I had to fab up the side outlets. I think they sell wagon outlets now. If you want stock the Gardners is probably best. Cheers :beer

    Thanks guys! :TU:
Dan- I wasn't aware of the GSCA system....does it have 2 tailpipe assemblies (over the axle), and then 4 different tailpipe ends (2-straight, and 2-downturned) that get clamped or welded on?

Ted, I spoke to Gardner a few years (errrr....egads!....NINE years ago!) :Dou: and they would build me a system for about $320 (that's in 1997 dollars!). They could even size the tubing larger if I wanted to. Did they give you a price? They may be the best choice for me.

Bill....geeze! why would I want it quieter????

Last system I bought was from Poston. But I had to cut and weld on tailpipe extensions, put new outlets on them, trim the ends, and then paint everything....that's just too much extra work for a 'NEW' system. Why can't they just make them right in the first place???

George...this'll be for the silver 4 speed car. I still can't make up my mind if I want it 'stock', or 'more than stock' :pp

    Any other systems out there?

    zaust system

You are right guy. it seems that us 65 GS guys got left out in the cold for exhaust systems. I have found a local who says he can make some down pipes for me and then I am going to try to make up a complete system for mine[ 2 1/2] with turbos. :Brow:

    GSCA System

Has anyone else purchased the GSCA system? That might be the ONLY mandrel-bent, bolt-on system available. My last newsletter is from 2003, so either my membership lapsed, or they are WAY behind in getting their newsletters out on time.
Do you have to be a current member to purchase from the GSCA?

There's a performance-exhaust company in my area.... Pypes exhaust. They do mandrel-bending....maybe they could make something up for us.

    just a thought

Do Mandrel bent tailpipes really matter? The muffler most likely is more restrictive than the bends in the tailpipes. $.02

    restrictive?????????

I am kind of like Don, just how restrictive can custom pipes be when there are mufflers of any kind on them. i plan to use just as big of a pipe that will go thru the collars that fasten to the exhaust manifolds and then use mufflers with the same size inlets and outlets. the mufflers are the real restriction. If it bugs some one that much then just exit in front of the rear tires like nascar. Don and I agree, restrictive is relative. Especially on a daily driver. :Brow:

    GSCA Exhaust

I do not have the GSCA system on my 65 but have talked with them about it.
Yes, it has two exhaust pipes over the rear axle assembly and then your choice of two tailpipes - straight or curved down. I suggest you call them at 229-244-0577, 8 am - 12:30 pm EST to get the real facts as to mufflers used, loudness, etc.

    Ted,
When I went to the Gardner website and it only showed 1968 and newer systems. Do they make an exhaust system specifically for the 65 - 66 that is not shown on their website ?

    SpecialWagon65 Ted Nagel

Yes. I talked to them @ musclepalooza and they said they make the 65 66 system. I'm not sure why they do not advertise it on the web. The pics look pretty good :TU:

The GSCA system does not fit the 65-7 GS's. I have one sitting in the box right now, and the tailpipes are not long enough, plus the center pipe is 2 short, will require VERY long mufflers or an extension. Go with Summit racing or Jegs, they list a 64-7 specific exhaust, and then have an exhaust shop make a downpipe for the manifolds.
