Hi Guys (and gals, if any...) It has been a while since I have been online, due to relocating mostly. I just found out a few days ago that my car is ready to be picked up. I had the motor that I purchased from Mike Garrison put in by a guy named Bruno on Long Island, NY. I know there are several out there that has met and know Bruno. Needless to say, one super guy and a Buick nut for over 35 years. Enough of the history stuff. I basically have a 70 455 Stage1 motor with the TA 413 cam and an Edelbrock intake. I am looking for the stock appearance and will be desiring to use my manifolds. I currently have an old junk set of headers and bolt on mufflers that need to go. What I am looking for advice on is what is my best bet to go with a 2 1/2" (prefer aluminized) system and I am wanting an X pipe as well. Who would I be best to purchase from for my car. I will have it installed by a shop, most likely, but I want a nice ready to install system, for the most part. Over the winter, I plan to send my manifolds to Greg Gessler to have them ported to help the motor breathe more, but I am looking for the stock look. Any help and advice would be very much appreciated ! Thanks, Mike :beer
Torque Tech sells the system with the x pipe turn key 2.5 or 3 inch. TA Performance sells exhaust with the correct cut on the tips( parallel to the ground) but you will need to get the x from Dr Gas. Gardner sells the exact 2.25 pipes( original ) but they look so small .
In your opinion, is it easy enough to put the correct cut on the Torque Tech system? Have you seen a TT system? Does it fit correctly everywhere else but just the tips are not correct? Thanks for the advice... :3gears:
I just installed a Torque Tech 2.5" system last week! Wow, very nice and very simple to install. Included all hangers and clamps. Took about 1 hr to install. I used the Walker SuperDynomax mufflers, long case. Sound great. I used no X or H pipe. Contact Keith at TT and order a system. http://www.torquetechexh.com/
I called TT and inquired about a system, as well as I went to thier website. I then realized they are in Valdosta, GA. That is about 2 1/2 hours away, and I have went thier to work many times. Needless to say, I was price quoted for a manifold system with X pipe to be $454 and I get a Buick discount, down to $397. I mentioned that I would prefer that she raised to origonal cost $1, and she laughed and said that is due to me having a 455 motor. A very nice person to talk to on the phone. Next question I have is dealing with mufflers... I am looking at the Dynamax's, as I have heard a lot of good words on them vice the Flowmasters. GStage1, I take it the system you installed was a big block? And did you use manifolds or headers? Anyone else running manifolds with these systems? I would like to know how it bolts to manifolds for my case. Thanks again... :Brow:
I'm running manifolds with an X-pipe. The down pipes were cut for the X-pipe. If you don't want an X-pipe, you'll need head pipes to connect the downpipes to the mufflers. <img src="http://www.v8buick.com/attachment.php?s=&postid=131880">
Yes, car is a 455 conv. Everything bolted up perfectly, no mods needed. I can submit a pic later tonight! Running stock set-up, manifolds, duals w/Superdynomax long case, 20". Walker also has a short case Superdynomax at 14". I have the 14" on my other cars and it is a nice system.
Torque tech for the downpipes/tailpipes. Mufflers are walker 17749 from Summit Racing. I got the X-pipe from an Olds guy out on LI, but if I did it again I'd get a Dr. Gas pipe instead. Rob and Jeff at Stage1automotive installed it on a Saturday - with a little help from me
