Is it illegal in Ga? or just your county? I have my exhaust coming out of the side and have never had any issues. I was pulled over by a real A-hole cop once in a different part of the state and he didnt say anything about it. Also the person I got to install the exhaust didnt warn me it was illegal.

As stated I have the exhaust coming out in front of the tire. Its like this for two reasons I kinda liked the look of it but mostly money. I saved $50 by not running it out of the back of the car and another $50 by running a set of glass packs. On my 56 it is awesome sounding not too loud and I dont get many exhaust fumes if sitting in traffic. I do occasionally get a interior drone at 65-70 but not bad.

Only thing I dont like is the way it had to be run, I do have the frame rail and the person installing didnt run it as tight as I would have liked. I occasionally hit my pipes on high sitting objects.

I plan on moving to Nevada (Henderson) soon and would like to know if it is illegal there.

Here's the 1969 GS (Swiss built) from my late friend Gouke, later owned by board member BaCo.
Exhausts on both sides of the car, in front of the rear wheels.

The thing I didn't like about it:

If you were driving the car with just the driver's side windows open, the engine had a strange note to it, because you only heard cylinder 1, 3, 5 and 7.

Just got it done on my 68 riv on fri. I got it with those wide flat tips even with the body...looks and sounds pretty killer. I like the look of the chrome tips even with the body...it looks really clean

those were the only cars that seemed to look good on. usually they just 90 degree the tailpipes out of the muffler and that looks goofy. i would put it over the axle. oh ya, the 97 f-150's had it exiting before the rear tire, that looked cool :Dou: .

I had mine like that once. I've also had it dumped at the rear end. Never again for either. Out the back (or halfway between behind the tires like ours are supposed to be) is the only way to do it but the exhaust does eat away at the chrome on the bumpers and the metal in the quarters.

Had a new Ford F150 in '97 with the exhaust ahead of the rear wheel. In less than 6 months the chrome wheel was just about garbage. They went back to exit behind the wheel in '98. May be a lot of acidic fumes in a modern car engine?

I had a car with exhaust exiting in front of the rear wheels. I personally did NOT like it. I think this was all mentioned above by the previous posters but I thought it did not look good, it was too loud, more likely to smell exhaust fumes, etc etc. It also sounds strange since you only heat 1/2 of the cylinders.

I added full tail pipes and the car was much quieter, less vibration, better sound and no decrease in performance despite the added weight. I guess these are the reasons that automakers usually route to the rear.

I had them running through a couple of the old "turbo" mufflers and piped out in front of the rear tires on my 67 Riviera. I was a lot younger then, and I usually ran with all four windows down while cruising in the evenings back in those days. I loved the sound of the 430 coming through those pipes. Cruising through town listening to it echo off the buildings always turned some heads. But then again, the car did that anyway.
Yes, the exhaust fumes did come into the car on occasion, although I never had any problems with the chrome on the wheels from the exhaust fumes.
Would I do it again? Maybe, although my plans at the moment are to go all the way back to the bumper. Getting big pipes snaked through the suspension and over the rearend can be a real pain however, so who knows. I do reserve the right to change my mind!
