Ok lets see if I can explain everything that I need to. New motor with about 200 miles. SP1, headers, HEI, GS Club cam (1989 vintage), Stage 1 springs, QJ. Previous to spinning a rod bearing the only thing that has been changed are the intake and HEI. Everything seems fine until the timing was set to 10* Now I have an exhaust backfire on the driver side and it only happens just off of idle. The previous combo ran 13.0 before the mishap. There doesn't seem to be much bottm end grunt but pulls good from around 3000. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    TIA Rick

Marc I can do that but I am pretty sure its ok. I am wondering about the carb maybe a lean thing going on. The carb was initially set up for racing but for a stock intake. It has really thin needles. It was fine untill I set the timing to 10*.

    misfire

I had a similar problem with my car. Mine would backfire through exhaust also. I found fouled spark plugs to be the problem. I replaced them and have had no problems since.
