Belongs to GS455David Vortech YS-Trim and carb box on a 455 Buick.:beer Should be completely finished by next weekend. :TU:
supercharger Thought about this myself. Didnt seem like it should be to tough. How was it for making brackets. Did you lower compression or anything or just leave the engine like it was.
Carb box Nice setup, you'll need bigger slicks :Brow: A question, can you buy the carb. box alone from anyone?
That is so cool. Looks like the hood might not close?? Is the hood bubbled or does it all fit under there?
The engine has not been modified for the blower, but I will be changing out the Hemi Killer cam for a blower cam. The compression is 9.76 to 1, the car weighs 4200 lbs with the addition of a gear vendors overdrive and myself in it and runs 113.55 mph in quarter on ET streets on 91 octane gas. We are shooting for somewhere in the 10's with about 8 lbs of boost. Everything you see mounted was done in about one day. If you have any questions, email me.
CIT, I looked for just the enclosures not long ago and they cost $650 to $700. Paxton also has an enclosure, but I don't think it was universal like the Vortech. If you search on Google you should find some sources.
Congrats on getting the project done! :TU: How does the "Vortech YS" compair to the ProCharger D series? Is there a clearance issue with the box at all? How much time does the box add to doing a Jet swap / carb adjustment? Sorry for all the questions............... When you have some times, please post them so we can see how much the blower improved them.
With a TA intake the box hits the hood. An Edelbrock or stock intake would give enough hood clearance. The carb has the speedblocks so jet changes take a matter of seconds. Since I have the TA intake, the hood will not close. The hood engages the first latch when you press down and that is all I can do. I am in the process of looking for a Stage 2 hood or cowl hood. Vortech customer service is leaps and bounds above ATI. Vortech actually called me to see how the install was going. ATI does not even answer their phones. From what I understand, the YS trim Vortech is comparable to an F series ATI. With that in mind I suppose it is better than a D series ATI. ATI only has a one year warranty and Vortech has a 3 year warranty. I ordered blower and received it in 1 day. When I originally ordered an F1R from ATI it was weeks before they admitted that they never even built mine so I pulled my order. According to Vortech, I should see over 200 rear wheel HP at only 8 lbs of boost which would put my car easily in the mid to low tens barring any major tuning issues or grenading the bottom end. The big block chevy kit with blow off valve and everything minus your own bracket fabrication was only $3100 which isn't too bad.
That looks like a nice set-up. Wish I had my engine back together so I could offer some real results with my procharger blown nailhead. My set-up is obviously all custom made as well. I do not have the sealed carb box, I have wondered if that really is necessary? Here is a bigger picture of my engine. My friend that orginally built the car said the performance was great, at least until the rockers messed up.
blowoff valve hei terry, where did you get that valve.that looks like a stock unit do you know how much boost it holds?
Could we see some more detailed pictuers. The first set everything is kind of in the shade. Can you take some more shots of it in better light? Thanks. Phil
Re: SoCal GS meeting My GTO needs paint and bodywork done, what day would be the best to drop by for an estimate?
I wonder what that'd take to get goin' on a 350... :Brow: Awesome setup, now its just time to see a turbo'd 455
