When using an etching primer, should you sand or scuff the surface before applying the filler primer?
hmm im not exactly sure what etching primer is but sounds like something we use called alodine in the navy on aircraft aluminum its a slightly acidic compound which creats a shield against corr and i believe betters paint adhesion to apply the stuff we lightly scuff sand the metal (with a scotch brite) to get a water break free surface then apply it ... now like i said i could be totally off base because im not sure if your stuff is like that or not..... just my 2 cents
Etch primer would need to be appliied to a clean sanded surface. If you are planning on putting a 2k primer over that you could lighly sand it for better adhesion but it isn't neccessary <------ Did i spell that right o No: ?
Check the tech sheets, some have a "window" of four hours, others are up to 24 or more. These "recoat windows" mean you can apply another undercoat or even a top coat in some cases over that etch primer without sanding. That is one of the best parts about them.
