    Keep scratching

and you will uncover th rest I think. The Letters corresponding to the year ( L =65 as you probably know) seem to show up on the passenger side of the engine and the VIN is stamped an the drivers side. All on the same flat area on the smooth machined area just in front of the valley pan. In fact, if you clean up your valley cover pan, you may see "ENG NO" and an arrow pointing toward the front of the car, towards the spot you need to be looking at!

I found them I was looking at the wrong side and it was kind of hard to see on the other side but I found it. It is KW590. I saw somewhere that that is for a 425 in '64. My car is a '65. Was that a late 64 carried over to 65 engine?

It looks like you have a replacement motor from a 64 Buick. KW is code for a 64 425 single 4bbl. The #s on the other side (7k1189... ) are from the vin # of the car the engine came from, and also help identify it. 7 is the vehicle series, K is 1964, 1 is Flint Mi plant, and the last six digits are the cars serial #. In 65, the vin codes on the engine were changed. They then began with the last # of the year, a letter code for the plant followed by the six number serial # for the car.
