Hey guys got a question that I hope you can help out on. So my '76 skylark engine is pretty much fried, overheated and and what not, as far as I can tell. (too slow of a crank to test head gasket pressure, and all it does is crank, battery is still good and what not, but something fell off ,haven't found what it was yet, when transporting it, car lost power and oil was leaking out very fast, after we got off the freeway and it over heated) So, thinking engine needs to be rebuilt or it might be easier to get another one from a junk yard or such, so my question is does anybody know, I know it is blasphemous for saying it, but what other years/makes of enigines will fit on my lark without having to change the mounting? I really need to get the car running soon because the bus really sucks getting to work. Anyways, any help you could give me would be great!
P.S. I know that a 72-80 Buick engine will fit, but kinda hard to find one of those around. And I don't have the funds right now to purchase a rebuilt one.

Not too familiar with a 76 'Lark. What engine is in it now?

The Stock 350 it came with, I think with one rebuild on it, rebuild has less than 40k on it

Must have had a Chevy guy do your rebuild. :Do No:

I'm no expert. I should think, however, that a 430/455 would fit in there fine with some bolt-in mount adapters. I would call TA Performance and see if theirs would fit your application. They know their stuff. Admittedly, this isn't bolting it right in without adapters, but if you don't have to fabricate or cut anything, then it's almost the same. Depending on which 350 is in your car, the transmission might bolt right up.

If you went the 455 route, there is a fair amount of aftermarket support and a lot of power to be had. Just dropping in a stock 71-72 455 would probably give you almost twice the power and three times the torque as the anemic 350 that is in there now. You can go up from there quickly with some tuning, a cam, and worked-over heads.
