So I finally did it, I think I spun a main in the 1973 Rivvy. My goal is to pull the 455 and go through it but that's going to take some time and car season is ramping up. I have a built and running Oldsmobile 455 we pulled from a buddy's 1971 Cutlass that I'd like to install for now, but I can't find any info on doing this or how difficult it would be. Has anyone done this or have knowledge on swapping over from a Buick 455 to an Oldsmobile 455?
Thanks for the info. I know the Oldsmobile starter is on the driver side instead of the passenger side and the distributor is on the back instead of the front but other than that I was it looks fairly similar. Not sure which mounts to use and I read somewhere that the oil pans may be different but info on the swap is almost non existent.
True. We were lucky enough to find out about Joe Mondello's son Bernard. We made a trip to SoCal to speak with him for my friends new motor build and what parts combo would work best. He got us a rotating assembly, heads and some other items and then referred us to Beck in Chico for the build. Other than those two, I have no idea who I'd speak with about Oldsmobile questions.
I think maybe you’ll be better off to use your olds mounts and just drill new holes in the cross member, then you know for sure they’ll fit the engine also.
I'll eventually be going back to the Buick 455. You think I'll be OK to drill new holes if I'll be switching back later?
I guess I'll see once I get the engine pulled . I ain't scared to modify things long as I can stab that Buick back in it.
