Engine is out of the car

    I removed the "injured" 455 from the Skylark today. When I removed the oil pan there enough debris in the sump to really worry me. I knew the bad cylinder was #4, and it was a shock to learn all of the debris was the remains of the piston skirt. After pulling the head, I was prepared for anything, but luckily, the head is OK and the top of the piston is intact.
    Now it is time to figure out what happened. The pistons are from Poston's, the hypereutectic version. Anybody using these? I won't blame the piston until I check the bottom end and see if that is the culprit. Personally I think a rod bearing has failed. We shall see!

    Make sure you label everything. Do you have a motor stand?Goodluck.

    I've had these pistons for 10+ years with no trouble. Even bent a valve on #2 piston five or six years ago. No trouble yet.:TU:
