Ok, I've boughten all the parts to put my 455 back together. However, I wanna customize the paint job on the engine, and aircleaner.I was thinking silver metalic aircleaner with black pinstriping and the 455.4 sticker. The intake below will be black, as well as the valve covers. Block will be Red.(something Different.) Do any of you have pics of what you've done to your engines. I'd be curious to see.....
Sounds like you want to do some powder coating. You can buy DIY kits, but you'll need a fairly large non-convection electric oven for curing
:eek2: :eek2: wow!! those are shiny. I don't have the equipment to do that amount of buffing. There is some work there. Nice.
yea they do look nice,i always wanted to make mine look like that but dont know who can do them for me this way? o No:
Polishing I have a local shop that does polishing for my products, (Valve covers, Oil pans, etc.) I would think they could do a pair of TA's for around $100 or so. If I would send them a picture, they would give me a more accurate estimate. Any quality polishers should be able to do those without too much trouble. Chroming would most likely cost an extra $150-$200. Thanks, Steve
Polishing I can take a picture of a set of the TA's and send it to them. Once I get a quote from them, I will re-post the price here. Give me a week or so. Thanks, Steve
Polishing I was very close on my guess. The polisher said it would be between $50-$70 per valve cover, plus the cost of shipping. The total should be under $150 for the pair. As far as chroming them, I do have a local source for chroming die cast and aluminum, but they are pricey. They would need to see the parts before they will give a price. My guess is, they would come in around $150-$200 for the pair. Thanks, Steve
Steve and they will come out like in the pic i posted?do you think i should chrome them so they dont dull out? Thanks
Polishing The polished finish will come close to chrome, but never as brilliant of a finish, especially on cast aluminum. There is always a haze when compared to polished billet aluminum. Also, a polished only finish is a bear to keep looking good. You can coat it with Zoop Seal which does help a lot, but overall there is no finish that is as brilliant as properly applied copper, nickel, chrome. Check with Jim W. at Tri Shield. He was having some very good success with a tumble finish on aluminum parts. Very close in appearance to a polished finish. I would give him a call first, and consider polishing and chroming as a second option, but the decision is definitly yours. Thanks, Steve P.S. I would verture to say that the valve cover in the picture is chromed.
Polishing Sorry, my home computer has died. I am only able to get on line occasionally at work, so I have very limited time on the V8 board. If you are interested in having me get your covers polished and chromed, give me a call so we can disscuss it. Thanks, Steve 920-684-6776 evenings or week ends
