While the front of the engine is off, I figured I might as well touch up some areas of the bay.

What's the best spray bomb to use?

I use Duplicator enamel Semi-gloss. Not sure its remotely close to what is factory but it looks pretty nice. Just did a simple cleaning of the inner wheel wells and surrounding areas then a light med-hi grit sanding sponge followed by a damp cloth or tack cloth wipedown and spray. Slow and steady and the rattle can does a pretty good job keeping the overspay very minimal.

Brett check Humidity. If under 45%. It will look Great. If 70% or more may Flatten out look to dull. And if 90% may turn Whiter (Grayer).

Brett Also you can go to Autobody paint store . And buy the Aerosol spray bottles. Then fill them with paint that the paint store can mix. That way if you add hardener to paint. Then have to clean firewall in the future with lighter fluid to take grease and dirt off. The paint wont wash off. ( people don't realize that kingsford lighter fluid is the same as Wax & Grease remover for pre prep. Before painting )

In early May I used POR15 which is a rust inhibitor and is a wicked paint if you get it on you or your clothes but dries to a nice satin black finish and lasts forever. very expensive, $45 a quart but a quart did all my engine compartment plus front suspension. I have used it two years ago on my 67 GS400 and it still looks awesome.

For paint colors go to this thread http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?posts/2655370/

Brett use aluminum foil to mask of stuff that you don't wanna take off. Just squeeze with your hand and your done . Fast & easy
Chuck I sprayed the whole underneath of my car and firewall with Por-15 and looks beautiful. But... if it's Humid & Hot The Por-15 will KICK right out of the gun. Before
It lays on the sheet metal. Resulting in dry spray. No fun. It was a bad experience. I nad to sand down the whole bottom of car. And Por-15 sands like cement

I found that POR15 has its directions to follow and if you don't then it does not dry to a nice satin finish. I can't imagine you having to sand POR15 since it is like an epoxy and dries very hard but you are certainly protected against further corrosion.

Chuck the forecast the day I planned on painting the underneath of my car was 90 *
100% humidity. The weatherman said 84 * 65% humidity. Never seen anything kike it. Was up at 10:00-10:30 in the morning . Air was so close . When I start painting it
The sweat was dripping on the paint . It was still morning. Never listen to he weatherman. Had the car upside down on horses. Me and 6 friends carried car in the garage with the A/C cranking in the house . When I come home in the evening after bailing hay all day. The paint layer down perfectly. And the sheen was perfect.

Good question about the engine compartment paint! I just used black Rustoleum Satin for the underside of the hood and the netting on the cowl. It has a slight sheen to it but turned out nicely. Does anybody know if the exposed lip behind the chrome trim on the 70 hood should be black or body color to look original?
