I've got a question regarding the engine in my 70. The casting date says "C-8". If i read this correctly, it means March 8th. The trans says P0C03B which means March 3rd. The trans is original to the car. Now the trim tag says the production date is 03A. The car was invoiced on the 12th. My question is....could this be the original block? The block does say "SS" on it and does show the correct VIN number, but there seems to be some speculation that the block was re stamped after it was decked (all prior to my ownership). How could be block be cast on the 8th and the car built almost the same day? Or maybe Im not reading something correctly??

    Jason,

Sounds legit to me. the 03A would be the first week of march. All date codes are within a week of each other. Also a matching VIN. Think we have a winner here.

    yep

The body date is the week Fischer finished the body shell only, then shipped it to Buick Final assembly to get the frame, drive train, front end, ect....

When you say invoiced, do you have the paperwork of the day Buick Final Asm. shipped to the dealer? If so, C-8 is surprising close but not impossible.

You may want to check with Brad, but I think you're ok... :Do No:

Dan.....The Wayne Roberts paperwork I have says "Date of Invoice- 3/12/70". I was under the impression that the 03A date was the date the car was assembled. Thats why I questioned the C-8 casting. But if your correct, then it looks like the block thats in there would be the original. Maybe Brad will chime in here.....

Thanks guys! Wow...first I find out from Wayne that my 70 is really a Stage 1. Now the engine I thought was more than likely replaced is the original. Gee...maybe I ought to go buy a lottery ticket :beer

John, Yes I did. Sorry, I forgot to PM you back :Dou: . Things have been unusually hectic over here lately. I'll be caravaning with Eric Stoldt and Marty J Weds morning. I just took the Riviera out of a 2 year storage. I hope the old girl makes it without a problem. Keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for your help with the hotel! :TU:
    See ya up there!
